General procedure: To starting material 9 or 10, respectively (1 mmol) was added 48% aqueous HBr (3 mL) and the mixture was stirred for 3h at room temperature. The crude reaction product was extracted with diethyl ether, the combined organic layers were dried with MgSO4 and evaporated to dryness. The crude product was employed directly in the subsequent reaction step without further purification.
