Purification by MPLC (Biotage) using a hexane-ethyl acetate gradient provided 1.47 g (74%) of 1- benzo [1,3] dioxol-4-yl-ethanone as an off-white solid. 1H-NMR (CDC13) 6 7.35 (d, J = 8 Hz, 1H), 6.97 (dm, J = 8 Hz, 1H), 6.87 (dd, J = 8 Hz, 1H), 6.08 (s, 2 H), 2.59 (s, 3H); TLC Rf = 0.18, 25% ethyl acetate-hexanes.
