To a solution of dimethyl 3-hydroxypentanedioate (20 g, 114 mmol) in CH2CI2 (100 mL) was added lH-imidazole (15.46 g, 227 mmol) and TBDPSC1 (46.8 g, 170 mmol) at 25C. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to afford the crude product, which was purified by gradient elution on S1O2 (ISCO, 120 g RediSep Gold column, 0 to 10% EtO Ac/Pet. ether over 90 min, dry-loaded) to afford the title compound.
