To a solution of tert-butyl 4-hydroxybutanoate (56 mg, 0.35 mmol) in 1 mL DCM was added DMP (273 mg, 0.64 mmol, 1.8 eq) and the solution was stirred for 2 h at rt. Crude free-base norheroin 2 (25 mg, 0.07 mmol) was dissolved in 4 mL of dry 1,2-dichloroethane, followed by the addition of crude ferf-butyl 4- oxobutanoate (30 mg, 0.19 mmol, 2.7 eq) and NaBH(OAc)3(22 mg, 0.11 mmol, 1.5 equiv). The reaction solution was allowed to stir for 2 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with DCM and washed twice with saturated sodium bicarbonate solution. Purification proceeded via preparative TLC using 5% MeOH in EtOAc as an eluent to yield 4.3 mg of 9 (12% yield).
