The synthesis of the target compounds (terminal, as well as internal olefins) was achieved by a one-step olefination of alcs. with sulfones catalyzed by a ruthenium pincer complex. Furthermore, performing the reaction with di-Me sulfone under mild hydrogen pressure provides a direct route for the replacement of alc. hydroxy groups by Me groups in one step.
