In reinforced concrete, a high alk. medium, steel is commonly protected by formation a passive oxide film. Nevertheless, contamination with chlorides or carbonation causes the deterioration of protective film and the initiation of pitting corrosion. Hence, the need to enrich the fresh concrete solution with a good corrosion inhibitor. In accordance with green chem. to evade toxicity and minimize waste, we have chosen to replace the usual inhibitors with an alternative not only ecol. but also derived from biol. wastes, in a perspective of circular economy emphasizing that waste can offer important compounds at an affordable price and easily available. In this context this work seeks to valorize the dried olive leaves extract as an inhibitor in alk. chloride solution (pH 13). The targeted plant was grown in arid zones of Saudi Arabia and their leaves are usually disposed of as solid waste or animal feed. Four extraction solvents of different polarities were used; methanol, Et acetate, dichloromethane and hexane. The anticorrosive activity was performed using different electrochem. techniques; polarization curves, electrochem. impedance spectroscopy and Mott-Schottky analyses. The polarization studies proved that extract from olive leaves is a mixed type inhibitor in a solution of NaOH (0.1 M) + NaCl (0.5 M),with a predominant anodic effectiveness. The best inhibition of 91.9% is provided with methanol extract GC-MS anal. showed the presence of compounds containing the heteroatoms N and O with the 蟺 electrons which are responsible for the corrosion inhibition activity. The olive leaves have been found to be high in phenol and flavonoid content. Inhibition efficiency of the olive leaves extracts increases with the polarity of extraction solvents but also it appears that it depends on another factors. The results showed that for the contribution of a given structural feature to logkHO. for different compounds, DNN and XGBoost treated it as a fixed and variable value, resp. We then developed an ensemble model combining the DNN with XGBoost, which achieved satisfactory predictive performance for all three datasets: Training dataset: R-square (R2) 0.89-0.91, root-mean-squared-error (RMSE) 0.21-0.23, and mean absolute error (MAE) 0.15-0.17; Validation dataset: R2 0.63-0.78, RMSE 0.29-0.32, and MAE 0.21-0.25; and Test dataset: R2 0.60-0.71, RMSE 0.30-0.35, and MAE 0.23-0.25. For APs, downtown and populated regions showed higher concentrations than rural regions; furthermore, the concentrations of APs in eastern tributaries were higher than those in western tributaries. In aquatic organism samples, the content range of APs, NPs, and octylphenols (OPs; 4-n-octylphenol and 4-tert-octylphenol) were 174.74-648.10 ng/g, 143.95-582.51 ng/g, and 8.10-37.10 ng/g, resp., with mean values of 346.52, 281.90, and 24.13 ng/g, accordingly. The accumulated level of APs in nine different species of aquatic organism species declined as follows: perch (Lateolabrax japonicus) > bighead fish (Aristichthys nobilis) > silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) > carp (Cyprinus carpio) > barbel chub (Squaliobarbus curriculus) > shellfish (Corbicula fluminea) > grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus) > cyprinid fish (Megalobrama hoffmanni) > shrimp (Macrobranchium nipponense). Carnivorous and filter-feeding fish tended to accumulate more APs than other dietic fish, shellfish and shrimps.
