This study aimed to validate a rapid and selective bioanal. method, using UHPLC-Orbitrap MS, for the determination of brain polar phenolics and to apply it in rats that orally consumed Corinthian currant for 38 days. Corinthian currant, is a dried vine fruit rich in polar phenolics that potentially penetrate the brain. During method optimization fresh and lyophilized tissues were comparatively studied along with different solid-phase extraction cartridges; satisfactory recoveries (>80%) for almost all analytes were attained using fresh tissues and Oasis HLB cartridges. Brain regional levels in phenol concentrations were then determined; isoquercetin showed higher concentrations in frontal cortex, hippocampus and cerebellum (14.0 ± 5.5, 6.6 ± 2.0, and 2.9 ± 1.3 ng/g tissue, resp.); rutin and gallic acid in cerebellum and isorhamnetin, quercetin and rutin in hippocampus of the Corinthian currant supplemented rat group compared to the control. This is the first study investigating polar phenolics’ accumulation in rat brain after Corinthian currant supplementation. 3,7-Dimethyloctan-1-ol (cas: 106-21-8) belongs to alcohols. The oxygen atom of the strongly polarized O―H bond of an alcohol pulls electron density away from the hydrogen atom. This polarized hydrogen, which bears a partial positive charge, can form a hydrogen bond with a pair of nonbonding electrons on another oxygen atom. Secondary alcohols are easily oxidized without breaking carbon-carbon bonds only as far as the ketone stage. Non-classical temperature-dependent phase sequence: long-lived metastable piezoelectric helical columnar liquid crystalline polymorph was written by Nguyen, Manh Linh;Byun, Jaeduk;Shin, Tae Joo;Cho, Byoung-Ki. And the article was included in Journal of Materials Chemistry in 2021.Category: alcohols-buliding-blocks The following contents are mentioned in the article:

The unusual polymorphic behavior of a liquid crystalline (LC) naphthalene derivative (1) based on 1,2,3-triazolyl linkages, is reported. Two individual polymorphs corresponding to metastable helical columnar (Colhel) LC and thermodynamically stable monoclinic crystalline (Cry) phases can be obtained at room temperature by mild thermal treatments. According to the thermal, dynamic, and structural analyses of 1, the triazolyl H-bonded network along the columnar axis plays a key role in the formation of the polar helical columnar order and its longevity. As a consequence of the remarkable stability of the metastable Colhel, a nonclassical phase sequence, i.e., Colhel-liquid-cry-liquid upon heating, was observed, although it was also predicted theor. in monotropic LC polymorphism. Piezoelec. measurement of the poled Colhel polymorph showed a noticeable increase in open-circuit voltage upon the application of force, which was >5 times greater than the measured voltage of the Cry polymorph. The collision cross section (CCS) is an important property that aids in the structural characterization of mols. Here, we investigated the CCS calibration accuracy with traveling wave ion mobility spectrometry (TWIMS) separations in structures for lossless ion manipulations (SLIM) using three sets of calibrants. A series of singly neg. charged phospholipids and bile acids were calibrated in nitrogen buffer gas using two different TW waveform profiles (square and sine) and amplitudes (20, 25, and 30 V0-p). The calibration errors for the three calibrant sets (Agilent tuning mixture, polyalanine, and one assembled inhouse) showed negligible differences using a sine-shaped TW waveform. Calibration errors were all within 1-2% of the drift tube ion mobility spectrometry (DTIMS) measurements, with lower errors for sine waveforms, presumably due to the lower average and maximum fields experienced by ions. Finally, ultrahigh-resolution multipass (long path length) SLIM TWIMS separations demonstrated improved CCS calibration for phospholipid and bile acid isomers. Bisphenol A (BPA) is a worldwide used endocrine disrupting chem. that can migration from food containers and packaging, resulting in bioaccumulation of BPA in humans and causing adverse health effects. Porous electrodes have been proved with large surface areas and high sensing abilities in electrochem. detection of BPA. However, how to tailor the pore sizes to further improve the sensing performance is still a great challenge. Here, we delicately tailored the diameters of carbon nanofibers (CNFs) by adjusting electrospinning parameters to have optimal mesopore structure for strong adsorption of hemin that has been demonstrated with high electrocatalytic activity for BPA sensing. Benefiting from the optimal mesopores structure of CNFs and the synergistic effect of hemin and CNFs, this hemin@CNFs based sensor achieves an ultrahigh sensitivity of 40.97μA cm-2μM-1, a low detection limit of 3.1 nM and satisfactory recoveries from 90.2% to 104.2% in the direct detection of BPA in liquors. Amine Organocatalysis of Remote, Chemoselective C(sp3)-H Hydroxylation was written by Hahn, Philip L.;Lowe, Jared M.;Xu, Yubo;Burns, Kevin L.;Hilinski, Michael K.. And the article was included in ACS Catalysis in 2022.Reference of 106-21-8 The following contents are mentioned in the article:

Authors introduce an organocatalytic approach for oxaziridinium-mediated C-H hydroxylation that employs secondary amines as catalysts. Authors also demonstrate the advantages of this operationally simple catalytic strategy for achieving high yielding and highly selective remote hydroxylation of compounds bearing oxidation-sensitive functional groups such as alcs., ethers, carbamates, and amides. By employing hexafluoroisopropanol as the solvent in the absence of water, a proposed hydrogen-bonding effect leads to, among other advantages, as high as ≥99:1 chemoselectivity for remote aliphatic hydroxylation of 2° alcs., an otherwise unsolved synthetic challenge normally complicated by substantial amounts of alc. oxidation Initial studies of the reaction mechanism indicate the formation of an oxaziridinium salt as the active oxidant and a C-H oxidation step that proceeds in a stereospecific manner via concerted insertion or hydrogen atom-transfer/radical rebound. Furthermore, preliminary results indicate that site selectivity can be affected by amine catalyst structure. Red light withering significantly improves the sensory flavor qualities of tea, although changes in metabolites during this process have not been systematically studied until now. The present study comprehensively analyzes metabolites in withered tea leaves at 2-h intervals up to 12 h under red light (630 nm) and dark conditions using ultra performance liquid chromatog.-high resolution mass spectrometry (untargeted metabolomics). Ninety-four non-volatile compounds are identified and relatively quantified, including amino acids, catechins, dimeric catechins, flavonol glycosides, glycosidically-bound volatiles, phenolic acids and nucleosides. The results show that amino acids, catechins and dimeric catechins are most affected by red light treatment. Ten free amino acids, theaflavins and theasinensin A increase after red light irradiation, whereas epigallocatechin gallate and catechin fall. Investigation of binding interaction between bovine α-lactalbumin and procyanidin B2 by spectroscopic methods and molecular docking was written by Fan, Yuting; He, Qingyu;Gan, Chao;Wen, Zhen;Yi, Jiang. The interactions between bovine α-lactalbumin and procyanidin B2 were fully investigated by spectroscopic methods and mol. docking. This study hypothesized that ALA could spontaneously interact with procyanidin B2 to form protein-based complex delivery carrier. Far UV CD and FTIR data demonstrated ALA’s secondary structures were altered and intrinsic fluorescence quenching suggested ALA conformation was changed with procyanidin B2. Calorimetric technique illustrated ALA-procyanidin B2 complexation was a spontaneous and exothermic process with the number of binding site (n, 3.53) and the binding constant (Kb, 2.16 x 104 M-1). A stable nano-delivery system with ALA can be formed for encapsulating, stabilizing and delivering procyanidin B2. Mol. docking study further elucidated that hydrogen bonds dominated procyanidin B2 binding to ALA in a hydrophobic pocket. This study shows great potential in using ALA as protein-based nanocarriers for oral delivery of hydrophilic nutraceuticals, because procyanidin B2-loaded ALA complex delivery systems can be spontaneously formed. Alkalization is a process to improve color, dispersibility and flavor of cocoa powder but is likely to have a neg. effect on the phytochems. Hereto, the impact of alkalization degree (none, medium and high) on the potential mood-enhancing compounds corresponding to the four levels of the mood pyramid model (flavanols, methylxanthines, biogenic amines and orosensory properties) was investigated. The phytochem. content, analyzed via UPLC-HRMS, showed reduction of specific potential mood-enhancing compounds upon alkalization, implying a decrease in bitterness and astringency. Moreover, volatile compounds anal. via HS-SPME-GC-MS indicated that alkalization reduced the levels of volatile compounds, responsible for acidity, fruity, floral and cocoa aromas. With respect to the orosensory properties, the cocoa powder palatability was suggested to be increased due to reduced acidity, bitterness, and astringency, while the desired volatile compounds were reduced.
