Rhizome of the fern Dryopteris crassirhizoma Nakai is used as an antiviral drug in China. The objective was to characterize physicochem. properties, structural features and antioxidant and immunol. activities of D. crassirhizoma polysaccharides. An acidic polysaccharide fraction (DCP-3) was obtained from Dryopteris crassirhizoma Nakai by purification with DEAE-52 and Sephadex G-100. DCP-3 was a novel triple-helical polysaccharide with an average MW of 273.2 kDa. This fraction was mainly composed of galactose (36.65%), xylose (34.75%), arabinose (17.07%) and mannose (9.22%). DCP-3 had strong activity for scavenging DPPH radical (IC50: 2.04 mg/mL), hydroxyl radical (IC50: 1.70 mg/mL), and superoxide anions (IC50: 4.20 mg/mL) and also was capable of reducing ferric ions. In addition, nitric oxide production was enhanced in RAW264.7 macrophages stimulated by DCP-3. Based on these bioactivities, we inferred that DCP-3 was a functional component of D. crassirhizoma and may confer antivirus activity, with potential applications in functional food and drug industries.

In this study, we screened a large library of (+)-camphor and (-)-borneol derivatives to assess their filovirus entry inhibition activities using pseudotype systems. Structure-activity relationship studies revealed several compounds exhibiting submicromolar IC50 values. These compounds were evaluated for their effect against natural Ebola virus (EBOV) and Marburg virus. Compound 3b (As-358) exhibited the good antiviral potency (IC50 = 3.7 μM, SI = 118) against Marburg virus, while the hydrochloride salt of this compound 3b·HCl had a strong inhibitory effect against Ebola virus (IC50 = 9.1 μM, SI = 31) and good in vivo safety (LD50 > 1000 mg/kg). The results of mol. docking and in vitro mutagenesis analyses suggest that the synthesized compounds bind to the active binding site of EBOV glycoprotein similar to the known inhibitor toremifene.

The presence of arabinose, galactose, rhamnos, mannose, β- D-glucose, fructose, galacturonic and glucuronic acids residues were measured by GC-MS anal. However, conversion of glucose into fructose probably occurred during the anal., because the temperature of the anal. is high enough. Both carboxylic groups and minerals/salts had a major influence on the rheol. properties of the gum. The gum exhibited polyelectrolyte behavior, and its solutions did not follow Newtonian flow behavior. It can be naturally occurred as an anionic polysaccharide. The gum was a highly branched polysaccharide and a member of arabinogalactans family. The main chain contains α- L-arabinofuranosyl, α- L-Araf, and β-D-galactopyranonyl, β-D-Galp, units. The following residues were identified: → 3,4) β-D-Galp (1→; → 3,4,6) β-D-Galp (1→; →3)- α- L-Araf-(1→; → 4) β-D-GlcpA (1 → .; glucosyl residues; and α-L- Rhap, (1 → . The as-prepared LiFePO4//ICSE//Li solid battery displays excellent electrochem. performance with a high reversible capacity of 153 mA h g-1 and a capacity of over 140 mA h g-1 was retained after 150 cycles at 0.1C and 25°C. This ICSE strategy may effectively contribute to the practical application of all-solid-state batteries.

In this study, three extraction methods of dynamic headspace sampling (DHS), solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) and liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) combined with switchable two-dimensional gas chromatog.-olfactometry-mass spectrometry (SGCxGC-O-MS) were employed to characterize volatile compounds in thermal reaction beef flavoring. The odor characteristics of thermal reaction beef flavors were identified by sensory evaluation, aroma extraction dilution anal. (AEDA), dynamic headspace dilution anal. (DHDA), odor activity value (OAV) and quant. measurements. A total of 231 volatile odor compounds were identified by the three extraction methods, which including 15 aldehydes, 41 ketones, 29 alcs., 27 esters, 13 furans, 20 pyrazines, 9 sulfur-containing compounds, 18 thiophenes and thiazoles, 19 acids and 40 other compounds Ninety-eight compounds had odor activity, and 22 odor-active compounds were quant. analyzed. 2-Methyl-3-furanthiol (meaty) and bis(2-methyl-3-furanyl) disulfide (onion) had the higher FD and OAV, 3-methylbutanal (chocolate) was first identified as the key odor-active compound in thermal reaction beef flavoring, Me furfuryl disulfide (meaty), 2-ethyl-3,5-dimethylpyrazine (roasted nuts), 2,3-butanedione (caramel), linalool (floral), furfural (baked bread), 2-furfurylthiol (sulfury) and other compounds were also identified as the key aroma components in thermal reaction beef flavoring. Endowing dental composites with excellent interfacial bonding through filler surface modification is pivotal to improve the phys.-mech. property and prolong the life of composite fillings. In this study, methacrylate-polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (MA-POSS) acts as a “”mol. bridge”” between the commonly used SiO2 particles and the methacrylate-based resin matrix via a thiol-ene click reaction to construct MA-POSS/SiO2 (p-SiO2) hybrid particles. Synthesized p-SiO2 exhibited the roughest surface morphol. and had more polymerizable groups, in comparison with SiO2 and silanized SiO2. Furthermore, the p-SiO2 particles were used as a reinforcement to fabricate bisphenol A glycerolate dimethacrylate/tri(ethyleneglycol) dimethacrylate-based dental composites, where the SiO2- and silanized SiO2-filled composites served as the control groups, and the filler loading was fixed at 65 weight %. Results of the mech. properties indicated that the hybrid p-SiO2 particles significantly improved the flexural strength, flexural modulus, compressive strength, and work of fracture of dental composites, giving improvements of 251.2, 17.89, 122.3, and 1094%, resp., over the SiO2-filled composites due to the strong interfacial interaction between the resin matrix and p-SiO2. Addnl., this optimal p-SiO2-loaded composite also presented better polymerization shrinkage, acceptable degree of conversion, curing depth, and cell viability. Grafting of MA-POSS onto a filler surface is a promising filler surface modification to improve the resin matrix/filler interfacial interaction, leading to the enhanced overall performance of composites.

This work fabricated rapid self-healing carbon fiber/epoxy composites based on the thermosetting-thermoplastic core-shell nanofiber to improve the healing efficiency and healing responsiveness of self-healing composites. The core-shell nanofiber was prepared by coaxial electrospinning on the premise that the melting temperature of thermoplastic copolyamide (PA) shell matched the curing temperature of encapsulated epoxy healing agent. Upon interlaminar fracture, the melting PA shell ruptured and released all core at healing temperature The thermal expansion of PA provided an addnl. driving force for healing. Therefore, the core-shell acted together as healing agent and rapidly fill the damaged region, realizing the full healing potential. The incorporation of core-shell nanofiber enhanced the bending strength by 16.11%, and the damaged composites achieved 89.96% recovery after healing for 20 min at 130 °C. The delamination surfaces showed the toughening and healing mechanisms of core-shell nanofiber. Moreover, the effect of deposition time on healing efficiency was discussed in detail.

In this article, we present a simple and versatile strategy to prepare thick composites via delayed thiol-epoxy photopolymerization The irradiation of a small area with a light-emitting diode (LED) point light source at room temperature leads to the decomposition of a photobase generator and the released active basic species can uniformly disperse throughout the whole system, including unirradiated areas, via mech. stirring. No polymerization was observed at room temperature and therefore the liquid formulations can be further processed with molds of arbitrary size and desired shapes. It is only by increasing the temperature that base-catalyzed thiol-epoxy polymerization occurs and controllable preparation of thick thiol-epoxy materials can be achieved. The formed networks display excellent uniformity in different radii and depths with comparable functionality conversions, similar Tg values, and thermal decomposition temperatures The presented strategy can be applied to prepare thick composites with glass fibers possessing improved mech. properties and dark composites containing 2 weight % carbon nanotubes.

The effects of different isomalt concentrations on the quality of wheat flour dough and spicy wheat gluten sticks (SWGS) were evaluated at the phys., structural and mol. levels. The results showed that the radial expansion rate (RER) and oil absorption rate (OAR) of SWGS increased first and then decreased with increased isomalt supplementation, which reached the maximum at 3 wt%. The pasting properties of wheat starch also changed, and the peak viscosity, breakdown and setback were decreased with the addition of isomalt. Dynamic rheol. properties results showed that the storage modulus (G) and loss modulus (G) increased with the addition of isomalt, which may be attributed to the reinforcement of gluten network structure by hydrogen bonding of isomalt. SEM (SEM) images illustrated that the SWGS surface becomes smooth and the broken gluten structure was reduced after the addition of different isomalt levels compared with the control group. Overall, the wheat flour dough quality anal. showed that the addition of isomalt could generate a close binding with wheat starch and protein and further strengthen the internal structure of gluten through isomalt hydrogen bonds.
