A review. The biomarker anal. of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEXs) in biol. samples is the primary technique for evaluating these compounds in occupational and environmental exposures. The BTEX biomarkers are widely used to study the BTEX distribution in the environment and workplaces. Liquid-liquid extraction and solid-phase liquid extraction are among the most commonly used conventional methods to analyze biol. indexes of BTEXs. New methods have been proposed to analyze BTEX biomarkers using novel adsorbents such as sol-gel composite nanotubes, molecularly imprinted polymers and metal-organic frameworks, which are based on the application of needle trap devices, microextraction by packed sorbent, and solid-phase microextraction techniques. This paper provides an overview of new methods since 2015 regarding applying microextraction methods based on new adsorbents and analyzing BTEX biomarker compounds for occupational and environmental exposures. The results were compared with the liquid-phase microextraction methods recommended for urinary BTEX biomarkers.

The synthesis of isomerically pure olefins containing all-carbon quaternary centers is a challenging issue. Herein, authors developed an efficient protocol for the synthesis of (Z)-olefins (27 examples, yield up to 97%, Z/E up to 99/1) and (E)-olefins (16 examples, yield up to 94%, E/Z up to 99/1) containing all-carbon quaternary centers. This protocol is adopted for the copper-catalyzed regioselective C-H alkenylation of the tertiary C(sp3)-H bond of 3-aryl benzofuran-2(3H)-ones with alkyne and alkenes. A diverse range of functional groups in the substrates is well-tolerated, such as F, Cl, Br, Me, OMe, ester, CF3, etc. A gram scale experiment was performed in good yield, and the radical mechanisms are also proposed based on the control experiments

A protocol for Rh(III)-catalyzed cleavage of C-C bond and C-H bond cascaded by Michael addition of α-hydroxy ketones was established. The method allows the rapid construction of phthalides and isocoumarins skeleton. A total of 62 phthalides and isocoumarins were obtained with yields up to 91% demonstrating the broad applicability of the protocol. This efficient cascade catalysis can be applied to the total synthesis of the natural products isoochracinic acid and sparstolonin B. The reaction mechanism, especially the dimerization process of the α-hydroxyketone, is unique. Further studies of the reaction using control experiments, in situ NMR anal., cyclic voltammogram and isotope tracking experiments have provided insight into the reaction mechanism.

In the present work we compared the biol. activity of mandelic acid (MA) and its Li, Na, K, Rb and Cs salts. The study also investigated the effect of raw wastewaters (RW) and treated wastewaters (TW), comparable to microbial medium (MM) on the biol. activity of the tested chem. compounds used in concentrations of 5; 2.5; 1.25; 0.625; 0.3125 mg/mL. In the present experiment the evaluation of the following parameters was performed: E. coli (ATCC 25922) cells viability, growth inhibition of E. coli (ATCC 25922), the inhibition of GFP protein, genotoxicity and ROS generation. Our results showed that three main factors differentiated the antibacterial activity of MA and its Li, Na, K, Rb and Cs salts: study environment (MM, RW, TW), metal forming salt of mandelic acid and concentration of tested compounds Addnl., raw and treated wastewater, compared to microbial medium, changes the antimicrobial activity of MA and its salts in relation to the E. coli strain. We also detected that both MA and its salts affect the GFP protein and the induction of the recA promoter (genotoxicity test). The activity of the tested salts in relation to these two parameters is strictly dependent on the type of salt-forming metal and the concentration used. The anal. of ROS synthesis suggests that in the majority of the studied mandelic acid salts, oxidative stress is the dominant mechanism of cytotoxicity and genotoxicity. We also showed that both raw wastewaters (RW) and treated wastewaters (TW), compared to microbial medium (MM), change significantly the activity of MA and its salts.

Ihsan, Mohammad published the artcileGenetic diversity in nutritional composition of oat (Avena sativa L.) germplasm reported from Pakistan, COA of Formula: C8H8O3, the publication is Saudi Journal of Biological Sciences (2022), 29(3), 1487-1500, database is CAplus and MEDLINE.

In the present study, 30 potential germplasm of oat (Avena sativa L.) were subjected to proximate, elemental, and HPLC anal. to provide a scientific basis to genetic diversity present among them. The extracts of the selected germplasms were also evaluated for their antioxidant potentials through DPPH and ABTS assays. Proximate anal. showed protein contents to be in the range 8.35-17.72% with the highest protein contents in the accession line 22,365 (17.72 ± 0.38%). The genotype-725 showed the highest carbohydrate, and dry matter (53.35 ± 0.01 and 93.50 ± 0.07% resp.) contents whereas, the germplasm-830 contained the highest fat (7.88 ± 0.12%) contents while the highest moisture contents were there in germplasm-22348 (11.95 ± 0.06%). The crude fiber contents (19.67 ± 0.19%) were found high in germplasm-832. The mentioned contents were also correlated to each other where a neg. (-0.431*) correlation was noted for crude protein and carbohydrate while ash content to crude protein has a pos. (0.38*) correlation. A pos. and a neg. correlation were there in Crude fats/crude protein (0.30*) and crude fats/moisture contents (-0.39*) resp. Principal component anal. showed an Eigenvalue of 0.76 with a total variation of 85.01% when applied to proximate components. Based on cluster anal. to proximate composition all the oat germplasms were divided into 5 sub-clusters, where accession numbers 769 and 817 were found to be the most diverse genotypes. The elemental anal. confirmed the presence of magnesium (2.89-7.62 mg/L), sodium (3.71-8.03 mg/L), manganese (0.93-3.71 mg/L), copper (0.35-3.36 mg/L), iron (2.15-6.82 mg/L), zinc (1.30-3.37 mg/L), chromium (0.37-3.34 mg/L), and potassium (50.70-59.60 mg/L) in the selected germplasms. Principal component anal. for elemental composition showed the total variation of 73.75% with the Eigenvalue of 0.97. Cluster anal. on an elemental basis divided all the oat germplasms into 7 sub-clusters where accession numbers 769 and 22,350 were found to be the most diverse germplasm. Phytochem. anal. performed through HPLC resulted in the identification of nine possible compounds (malic acid, epigallocatechin gallate, quercetin, morin, ellagic acid, catechin hydrate, rutin, pyrogallol, and mandelic acid) in various germplasm of oat. A concentration-dependent antioxidant response was recorded when extracts were tested as an inhibitor of DPPH and ABTS free radicals. The results revealed that oat grains are a good source of nutrients, minerals, and phytochems. that can be used as nutraceuticals and as food. The genetic differences revealed that this plant can be grown under varied environmental conditions.

Numerous industrial organic pollutants such as aromates, alkoxyalcs., other organic solvents and monomers are absorbed, metabolized, and finally excreted in urine mostly as carboxylic acids that are determined as biomarkers of exposure. For a number of these xenometabolites, biol. limits (levels of biomarkers in biol. material) have been established to prevent damage to human health. Till now, most of the anal. procedures used have been optimized for one or a few analytes. Here, we report a more comprehensive approach enabling rapid GC-MS screening of sixteen acidic biomarkers in urine that are metabolized in the human body from several important industrial chems.; benzene, toluene, styrene, xylenes, alkoxyalcs., carbon disulfide, furfural and N,N-dimethylformamide. The new method involves immediate in situ derivatization – liquid liquid microextraction of urine by an Et chloroformate-ethanol-chloroform-pyridine medium and GC-MS anal. of the derivatized analytes in the lower organic phase. The xenometabolite set represents diverse chem. structures and some of hippuric and mercapturic acids also provided unusual derivatives that were unambiguously elucidated by means of new Et chloroformates labeled with stable isotopes and by synthesis of the missing reference standards In the next step, an automated routine was developed for GC-MS/MS anal. using a MetaboAuto sample preparation workstation and the new method was validated for fourteen metabolites over the relevant concentration range of each analyte in the spiked pooled human urine. It shows good linearity (R2 ≥ 0.982), accuracy (from 85% to 120%), precision (from 0.7% to 20%) and recovery (from 89% to 120%). The method performance was further successfully proved by GC-MS/MS anal. of the certified IP45 and RM6009 reference urines. Moreover, we show that the new method opens up the possibility for biomonitoring of combined and cumulative occupational exposures as well as for urinary metabolite profiling of persons exposed to harmful industrial chems.

Sensors used to detect Fe3+ and Cys are generally a single method. In this work, two methods of fluorescence and electrochem. are innovatively combined to detect Fe3+ and Cys, and the obtained Lod is basically the same. Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) with blue fluorescence were successfully prepared by hydrothermal methods using tryptophan (Trp) as carbon source, which can be used for fluorescence and electrochem. dual-channel probe quickly detecting iron ion (Fe3+) and cysteine (Cys). A series of studies have been carried out on its morphol., chem. structure, and optical properties through TEM, XRD, FT-IR, XPS, UV-vis absorption spectrum, and photoluminescence spectra. And the quantum yield of CQDs was up to 52.64%. It was also analyzed in the real sample, demonstrating the feasibility and reliability of detecting Fe3+ and Cys in the real sample. Furthermore, CQDs can also be used as fluorescent ink for information anti-counterfeiting due to their excellent fluorescent properties.

Danielski, Renan published the artcileA non-conventional approach for obtaining phenolic antioxidants from red guava (Psidium guajava L.) by-products, Related Products of alcohols-buliding-blocks, the publication is Journal of Food Processing and Preservation (2022), 46(6), e16502, database is CAplus.

The recovery of phenolic antioxidants from agro-industrial byproducts using non-conventional techniques is a powerful tool to explore the bioactive potential of natural sources. Therefore, it is imperative to analyze the most suitable method to investigate a plant material’s phenolic composition This study used ultra-turrax (UTE), ultrasonic bath (BUAE), and pressurized liquid (PLE) for soluble phenolic extraction from guava’s pulp and processing waste. UTE at 25°C for 1 h yielded the highest concentration of total phenolics and flavonoids from guava pulp, while PLE for 30 min at 60°C/10 MPa presented the best performance for flavonoids and condensed tannins recovery from guava waste. PLE produced extracts with 39 phenolics and high antioxidant capacity. Besides, scopoletin, resveratrol, and naringin are being reported for the first time in this fruit. These results suggest possible alternatives for the recovery of bioactive compound, which may be used to develop nutraceuticals and/or functional foods. Practical applications : Upon guava processing, 30% of fruit’s total volume is lost in the form of byproducts (seeds, peels, and pulp leftovers). Evidence points out that this fraction, along with guava’s pulp, is rich in phenolics with antioxidant properties. An extraction procedure should be conducted to recover these compounds However, conventional techniques are laborious, time-consuming, and they generally use a large amount of toxic organic solvent. Ultra-turrax-UTE, ultrasonic bath-BUAE, and pressurized liquid-PLE are non-conventional approaches that make possible the reduction of solvents and the recovery of selected phenolics not possible with conventional techniques. These extracts could be further applied to lipid-rich foods as a natural antioxidant system and/or as an ingredient in the development of nutraceuticals and functional foods.
