Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health, Part A: Current Issues published new progress about Bioaccumulation. 42822-86-6 belongs to class alcohols-buliding-blocks, name is 2-(2-Hydroxypropan-2-yl)-5-methylcyclohexanol, and the molecular formula is C10H20O2, Recommanded Product: 2-(2-Hydroxypropan-2-yl)-5-methylcyclohexanol.

Reifenrath, William G. published the artcilePercutaneous Absorption of an Insect Repellent p-Menthane-3,8-DIOL: A Model for Human Dermal Absorption, Recommanded Product: 2-(2-Hydroxypropan-2-yl)-5-methylcyclohexanol, the main research area is menthanediol insect repellent skin absorption swine model solvent.

P-Menthane-3,8-diol(38DIOL) was recently introduced as a natural topical insect repellent in the com. product “”OFF! Botanicals”” lotion. The objective of this study was to provide an estimate of the potential for 38DIOL systemic absorption in humans. 14C 38DIOL formulated in the lotion and in an EtOH solution was applied to excised swine skin in an in vitro flow-through test system predictive of skin absorption in humans. Twenty-four hours after application, radiolabel recovered from the dermis and receptor fluid was summed to determine % absorption. At a dose of approx. 80 μg/cm2 of 38DIOL in the lotion, a value of 3.5 ± 0.8% of applied dose was obtained with swine skin. The corresponding value for 38DIOL in EtOH (90 μg/cm2) was not significantly different (3.0 ± 1.2%). Most of the applied dose of 38DIOL was found to evaporate from swine skin (77 ± 8% for the lotion and 87 ± 1% for EtOH solution), thus limiting percutaneous absorption values. For reference purposes, the swine skin absorptions of piperonyl butoxide (PBO) at 100 μg/cm2 in isopropanol, N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET) at 500 μg/cm2 in EtOH, and neat isododecane at 650 μg/cm2 (in order of increasing volatility) were 15 ± 6%, 23 ± 3%, and 0.09 ± 0.05% of applied dose resp. Isododecane was lost almost exclusively from the skin surface by evaporation For addnl. reference, absorptions of PBO, DEET, and 38DIOL were found to be higher with excised rat skin.

Chankaew, Chaiyos published the artcileKaffir lime leaf extract mediated synthesis, anticancer activities and antibacterial kinetics of Ag and Ag/AgCl nanoparticles, Formula: C10H20O2, the main research area is silver chloride nanoparticle kaffir lime leaf antibacterial kinetic property.

A facile phytosynthesis of Ag/AgCl and Ag nanoparticles (NPs) was developed using a crude water extract of Citrus hystrix DC (kaffir lime) leaves. The phytochem. and chloride contents of the extract, and various synthesis parameters were studied. The obtained Ag/AgCl and Ag NPs were of the cubic phase and mostly spherical in shape. Particle sizes of the yielded NPs were distributed in a narrow range with an average size of 20 and 38 nm for the Ag/AgCl and Ag NPs, resp. The reducing function of the phytochems. and the stabilizing ability of gelatin were demonstrated. The NPs showed significant anti-proliferative activities against the carcinoma HCT 116 and adenocarcinoma Caco-2 colorectal cell lines, but had a neg. effect toward human fibroblasts. The NPs exhibited excellent antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus cereus. The inactivation kinetics obtained in the presence of the NPs showed a biphasic behavior that can be explained by the Cerf model.

Marcus, Julien published the artcileNano-droplet formation in water/ethanol or isopropanol/mosquito repellent formulations, Category: alcohols-buliding-blocks, the main research area is nanodroplet water ethanol isopropanol mosquito repellent formulation.

It was recently demonstrated that nano-structures were present in water/ethanol/oil systems, where the oil was either octanol or fragrance mols. The goal of the present work is to check if such structures exist also in other, related systems and if a general concept can be deduced from these observations. To this purpose, natural and synthetic mosquito repellent mols. were investigated, which represent nearly all repellents used on the market. For the ternary water/alc. (ethanol or isopropanol)/repellent systems ternary phase diagrams were established. The presence and the ordering of the nano-droplets were checked and characterized with dynamic and static light scattering and conductivity measurements. Based on these results it can be concluded that a nano-ordering with generally an organic continuum exists in hydro-alc. com. mosquito repellents, and thus that these systems are not simply mol. solutions This might have a consequence for diffusion processes in the skin.

Khalil, Samah R. published the artcileRestoring strategy of ethanolic extract of Moringa oleifera leaves against Tilmicosin-induced cardiac injury in rats: Targeting cell apoptosis-mediated pathways, Safety of 2-(2-Hydroxypropan-2-yl)-5-methylcyclohexanol, the main research area is Moringa leaf extract Tilmicosin heart injury apoptosis antioxidant; Apaf-1; Apoptosis; Bcl-2; Caspase-3; Moringa oleifera; Tilmicosin.

Tilmicosin (Til), an effective macrolide antibiotic, is widely used against respiratory diseases in livestock; however, its treatment is associated with cardiac tissue impairments. In this study, the ethanolic extract of Moringa oleifera (MO) leaves was investigated at two doses (400 and 800 mg/kg body weight [bw], orally) to determine its role in counteracting the effects of Til treatment (75 mg/kg bw) on the cardiac tissue in rats, exploring the oxidative stress-mediated damage and apoptosis. A high dose of MO ethanolic extract elicits considerable changes in the body weight, reduces the mortality rate, neutralizes the impaired cardiac injury markers, improves antioxidant endpoints (total antioxidant capacity, superoxide dismutase, catalase activity, and reduced glutathione level). Also it attenuates the oxidative stress indexes (total reactive oxygen species, 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine, lipid peroxides [malondialdehyde], and protein carbonyl levels) that are associated with Til injection. The co-administration of MO ethanolic extract with Til considerably modulates the expression of apoptosis pathway-encoding genes (Bcl-2, caspase-3, Bax, p53, apoptosis-inducing factor, and Apaf-1), particularly in the high-dose group. Our results support that the concurrent administration of MO ethanolic extract with Til at a dose of 800 mg/kg bw increases the protective activity of the antioxidant system and delays or slows the pathol. development of cardiotoxicity mediated by Til injection.

The use of natural resources as a chem. feedstock for the synthesis of added-value products is gaining interest; as such we report an environmentally friendly method for the synthesis of para-menthane-3,8-diol from natural citronellal oil in 96% yield, under solvent free aqueous conditions. The acylation of para-menthane-3,8-diol with various acid anhydrides over polymer-supported scandium triflate (PS-Sc(OTf)3) catalyst was subsequently developed, where both hydroxy groups of para-menthane-3,8-diol could be simultaneously acylated under mild reaction conditions to form the corresponding diesters in good yields. The advantages of this method include a simple procedure from natural resources, using solvent-free reaction conditions.

Elmhalli, Fawzeia H. published the artcileAcaricidal effects of Corymbia citriodora oil containing para-menthane-3,8-diol against nymphs of Ixodes ricinus (Acari: Ixodidae), SDS of cas: 42822-86-6, the main research area is Corymbia oil menthane diol acaricide Ixodes.

The toxicity of para-menthane-3,8-diol (PMD), the main arthropod-repellent compound in the oil of the lemon eucalyptus, Corymbia citriodora, was evaluated against nymphs of Ixodes ricinus using five methods (A-E) of a contact toxicity bioassay. Mortality rates were estimated by recording numbers of dead nymphs at 30 min intervals during the first 5 h after the start of exposure and at longer intervals thereafter. The mortality rate increased with increasing concentration of PMD and duration of exposure with a distinct effect after 3.5 h. From the results obtained by methods A, C and E, the LC50 range was 0.035-0.037 mg PMD/cm2 and the LC95 range was 0.095-0.097 mg PMD/cm2 at 4 h of exposure; the LT50 range was 2.1-2.8 h and the LT95 range was 3.9-4.2 h at 0.1 mg PMD/cm2. To determine the duration of toxic activity of PMD, different concentrations (0.002, 0.01, 0.1 mg PMD/cm2) were tested and mortality was recorded at each concentration after 1 h; thereafter new ticks were tested. This test revealed that the lethal activity of PMD remained for 24 h but appeared absent after 48 h. Thus, PMD is toxic to nymphs of I. ricinus and may be useful for tick control.

In the field in south-central Sweden, we tested by randomized, standardized methodol. the potential anti-tick repellent activity of 2 concentrations of MyggA Natural spray (containing PMD) (4.2 and 3.2 g/m2) and one of RB86 (with 70% neem oil containing azadirachtin)(3 g/m2) to host seeking nymphs of Ixodes ricinus. Each substance was applied sep. to 1 m2 cotton flannel cloths. Nymphal ticks on the cloths, pulled over the vegetation, were recorded at 10-m stops. Nymphal numbers recorded differed significantly between treated cloths [4.2 or 3.2 g MyggA Natural spray/m2 and 3 g RB86/m2] and the untreated control (df = 3, χ2 = 112.74). Nymphal numbers also differed significantly among collectors (df = 3, χ2 = 15.80). Repellency of treated cloths, i.e., 4.2 or 3.2 g MyggA Natural spray/m2 and 3 g RB 86/m2 declined from day 0 (i.e. the day of impregnation) to day 3 after impregnation from 77 to 24%, 58 to 16%, and 47 to 0.5%, resp.
