A solution of p-toluene sulfonyl chloride (17.9 g, 93 mmol) in THF (40 mL) was added dropwise to the alkaline solution at 0 oC. After completion of addition, the reaction mixture was stirred for 1 h at room temperature and poured into ice/water. The organic materials were extracted with hexane and hexane layer was washed with brine, dried with MgSO4 , and evaporated to leave a residue which was distilled under vacuum to give 22.4 g of 2-(p-tolylsulfonyloxy)ethyl propenyl ether (1b) as a colorless oil in 93% yield (22.4 g).
