Miniemulsion polymerization has become widely recognized as a versatile and efficient strategy to prepare well-defined polymer latexes. In this article, we report the synthesis of poly(benzyl methacrylate) (PBzMA) latexes via reversible addition-fragmentation chain-transfer (RAFT) mediated miniemulsion polymerization using non-ionic Lutensol TO 20 surfactant. The influence of hydrophobe, initiator, and RAFT agent on particle diameter, particle number, rate of polymerization, and molar mass were investigated systematically. In all cases well-controlled RAFT polymerizations were observed, as indicated by kinetic studies and GPC anal. Higher concentrations of hexadecane lead to an increase in the of number of particles per unit volume and a decrease in PBzMA latex diameter The rate of polymerization with respect to initiator concentration follows a power-law relationship Rp α [initiator]1/2 but only negligible differences in molar mass, molar mass dispersity, and particle diameter values were observed for a range of initiator concentrations Targeting lower PBzMA degrees of polymerization increases the overall rate of polymerization and latex diameter

The role of ambroxol hydrochloride combined with fiberoptic bronchoscopy in elderly patients with severe pneumonia remains unclear, we aimed to analyze this issue to provide evidences into the management of clin. pneumonia. We searched PubMed et al databases up to Oct. 20, 2021 for the randomized controlled trials on the application of ambroxol hydrochloride combined with fiberoptic bronchoscopy in elderly patients with severe pneumonia. Related outcomes were extracted and analyzed. Review Manager 5.3 software was used for data anal. A total of 13 randomized controlled trials involving 1317 elderly patients (559 cases in the ambroxol hydrochloride+fiberoptic bronchoscopy group and 658 cases in the fiberoptic bronchoscopy group) with pneumonia were included. Meta-analyses indicated that the blood oxygen partial pressure [mean difference (MD)=5.75, 95% confidence interval (CI) (3.80, 7.70)], blood oxygen saturation [MD=6.43, 95% CI (4.39, 8.48)], oxygenation index [MD=26.75, 95% CI (14.61, 38.89)] of exptl. group was significantly higher than that of control group (all P001), the incidence of multiple organ failure [odds ratio=0.42, 95% CI (0.31, 0.56), P001], mortality on day 28 [odds ratio=0.44, 95% CI (0.33, 0.59)] of exptl. group was significantly less than that of control group (all P001). The high-dose ambroxol hydrochloride combined with fiberoptic bronchoscopy is beneficial to improve the patients blood gas indicators, and reduce mortality in elderly patients with severe pneumonia.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the clin. efficacy of oxytocin combined with prostaglandins in the prevention of postpartum hemorrhage of high-risk pregnancy puerpera with caesarean section. High-risk pregnancy puerpera(330 cases) with caesarean section in Affiliated Hospital of Yan’an University from Jan. 2012 to Dec. 2013 were randomly divided into 3 groups(110 cases in each group): carboprost tromethamine+oxytocin(CTO) group, carboprost methylate+oxytocin(CMO) group, and oxytocin group. And patients in the CTO group were i.m. given carboprost tromethamine 250 μg in the body of uterus following fetus expulsion, and then were iv oxytocin 10 U. The patients in the CMO group were sublingual administered with carboprost methylate 1 mg following fetus expulsion, and were iv oxytocin 10 U. The patients in the oxytocin group were iv oxytocin 10 U following fetus expulsion, and were i.m. given oxytocin 10 U in body of uterus. The quantity of bleeding was compared among the three groups during the operation, 2, and 2-4 h after operation. The postpartum hemorrhage, blood transfusion, and addnl. hemostatic measures after delivery were observed among the three groups. The side reaction was also observed among the three groups. During operation, 2, and 2-4 h after operation, the quantity of bleeding of maternal in the CTO group was less than that in the CMO group and oxytocin group, with the significant difference(P<0.05). During the operation, 2 h after operation, the quantity of bleeding of maternal in the CMO group was significantly less than that in the oxytocin group(P<0.05). While 2-4 h after the operation, there was no significant difference. The postpartum hemorrhage, blood transfusion rate, and addnl. intervention measures to stop bleeding in the CTO and CMO groups were significantly lower than those in the oxytocin group(P<0.05). The side effects of the three groups were 9.09%, 8.18%, and 6.36%, resp., and there was no significant difference. CTO is effective in preventing postpartum hemorrhage of high-risk pregnancy. CMO could reach a certain preventive effect, but the application of oxytocin simply showed poor efficacy.

Folate derivatives are crucial growth factors for Ketogulonigenium vulgare which is used in mixed culture with Bacillus megaterium for the industrial production of 2-keto-L-gulonic acid (2-KGA), the precursor of L-ascorbic acid (L-AA) or vitamin C (Vc). To improve the growth and 2-KGA production, five genes involved in folate biosynthesis identified in a folate gene cluster from Lactococcus lactis MG1363, including folB, folKE, folP, folQ and folC, were over-expressed in K. vulgare. Intracellular folate concentration in the recombinant strain harboring folate biosynthesis genes cluster under the control of Psdh (sorbose dehydrogenase gene sdh promoter from K. vulgare) was 8 times higher than that of the wildtype K. vulgare DSM 4025 (P < 0.001). In shake flask studies, the cell d. and 2-KGA production of the recombinant K. vulgare Rif (pMCS2PsdhfolBC) were increased by 18% (P < 0.001) and 14% (P < 0.001), resp., under a relatively stable pH 7 condition. In fermentor studies, enhancements around 25% cell d. (P < 0.001) and approx. 35% 2-KGA productivity (P < 0.001) were observed in comparison with the controls without over-expressing the folate biosynthesis genes. This was the first successful study of metabolic engineering on K. vulgare for enhanced 2-KGA production

4-Tert-octylphenol (4-t-OP), a kind of endocrine-disrupting compounds, is widely distributed in natural water surroundings but can hardly be biodegraded. The advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have been proved to be an efficient method to degrade 4-t-OP. The photodegradation of 4-t-OP in aqueous solution promoted by Fe(III) and the photooxidation mechanism were studied. The ferric perchlorate was added into the aqueous solution for the production of hydroxyl radical. The efficiency of mineralization was monitored by total organic carbon analyzer, and photooxidation products were determined by HPLC and liquid chromatog.-mass spectrometer. 4-t-OP (2.4 × 10-5M) in aqueous solution was completely degraded after 45 min in the presence of Fe(III) (1.2 × 10-3M) under UV irradiation (λ =365 nm). The optimal pH was 3.5. Higher Fe(III) concentration or lower initial 4-t-OP concentration led to increased photodegradation efficiency of 4-t-OP. The reaction was almost completely inhibited in the presence of 2-propanol. About 70% mineralization of the solution was obtained after 50 h. The photooxidation product was supposed to be 4-tert-octyl catechol. 4-t-OP in aqueous solution can be degraded in the presence of Fe(III) under the solar irradiation The photoinduced degradation is due to the reaction with hydroxyl radicals. It shows that the 4-t-OP is mineralized by the inducement of Fe(III) aquacomplexes, which exposes to solar light. Therefore, the results would provide useful information for the potential application of the AOPs to remove 4-t-OP in water surroundings.

Previously, isoxazole I [R = EtO (II)] was reported to have excellent antituberculosis activity against both replicating and non-replicating Mycobacterium tuberculosis, with a min. inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 0.9 μM and 12.2 μM, resp. In this study, the antituberculosis activity of II was further investigated. Its activity appeared to be very specific for organisms of the M. tuberculosis complex and it effected significant reductions of bacterial numbers in infected macrophages with an EC90 of 4.1 μM. More importantly, the increased in vitro antituberculosis activity of the corresponding acid I (R = HO) at pH 6.0 suggested that it may be active in vivo in an acidic environment produced as a consequence of inflammation in the lungs of TB patients. The fact that various ester bioisosteres of compound II lost anti-TB activity further suggested that II may function as a prodrug. The detailed structure-activity relationships (SARs) from this study should facilitate our ultimate goal of improving the anti-TB potency of this isoxazole ester series.

The Drosophila morphogenetic protein Bicoid, encoded by the maternal gene bicoid, is required for the development of the anterior structures in the embryo. Bicoid, a transcriptional activator containing a homeodomain, is distributed in an anterior-to-posterior gradient in the embryo. In response to this gradient, the zygotic gene hunchback is expressed uniformly in the anterior half of the embryo in a nearly all-or-none manner. In this report we demonstrate that a recombinant Bicoid protein binds cooperatively to its sites within a hunchback enhancer element. A less than 4-fold increase in Bicoid concentration is sufficient to achieve an unbound/bound transition in DNA binding. Using various biochem. and genetic methods we further demonstrate that Bicoid mols. can interact with each other. Our results are consistent with previous studies performed in the embryo, and they suggest that one mechanism to achieve a sharp on/off switch of gene expression in response to a morphogenetic gradient is cooperative DNA binding facilitated by protein-protein interaction.

Gem-Difluoroalkenes have steric and electronic profiles similar to those of ketones, aldehydes, and esters, and consequently have been used widely as carbonyl isosteres in modern drug discovery. Although many attempts have been made to achieve gem-difluoroalkenes, the induction of enantioselectivity at the α position of a gem-difluorovinyl group still remains a challenge. Herein, an efficient method for the construction of gem-difluoroallylboronates with high enantiomeric excess via a copper-catalyzed defluoroborylation of 1-(trifluoromethyl)alkenes with B2pin2 is described. The reaction conditions were mild, and a variety of common functional groups, such as ether, fluoride, chloride, bromide, iodide, ester, cyano, sulfide, amino, and indoyl groups, were well tolerated. Furthermore, we not only applied this developed system as a powerful synthetic tool for the late-stage modification of complex compounds but also highlighted the utility of the formed compounds in synthesis.

The aim of this paper is to investigate therapeutic effect of hemabate on preventing and treating bleeding in cesarean section or post-operation of high-risk parturient women, and its safety. 60 High-risk parturient women were divided into two groups: hemabate group (A group with 30 cases)and oxytocin+methyl carboprost suppository group (B group with 30 cases). The bleeding amount was recorded during operation and 24h post- operation. Bleeding incidence rate in group B was significantly higher than that in group A (16.7 vs 6.67%). The bleeding amounts during operation and 24h post-operation were 441.57±252.03 mL and 651.26±308.24 mL in B group, while those in group A were 317.31±162.47 mL and 512.26±251.54 mL, resp., with significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05). Hemabate can effectively reduce bleeding amount in cesarean section or post-operation of high-risk parturient women and has advantages of safety, high performance, quickness and convenience.
