Ma, Zhiyuan; Cunningham, Alexander J.; Zhu, X. X. published the artcile< Enzymatic Conversion of Galactose Polymers into Copolymers Containing Galactonic Acid by Glucose Oxidase>, SDS of cas: 4064-06-6, the main research area is copolymer PEG glycopolymer glucose oxidase.

Sugar oxidase can oxidize a carbohydrate substrate into an acid, but there have been no reports on the successful enzymic conversion of glycopolymers containing carbohydrate pendants. We introduced a poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) spacer between the carbohydrate and the methacrylic units, and glucose oxidase (GOx) showed enzymic activity when the PEG spacer is sufficiently long, converting the galactose pendant into galactonic acid and yielding a copolymer. The glycopolymers with a PEG spacer showed stronger binding to the sugar-specific lectin than those without the spacer, while the binding was gradually weakened as the sugar pendants were converted to acid groups. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example to use a hydrophilic PEG spacer to enzymically convert a substrate attached on a polymer chain. The enzymic conversion of such glycopolymers represents a useful green chem. approach to obtain copolymers based on carbohydrates.

Chen, Xueyuan; Zhong, Junyang; Jiang, Xinlin; He, Ziqing; Quan, Yusi; Zhong, Songjing; Li, Guangji; Huang, Yugang published the artcile< Structure and Oxidation Effects on Conformation and Thermoresponsiveness of the OEGylated Poly(glutamic acid)-Bearing Side-Chain Thioether Linkers>, Application of C4H8O, the main research area is structure conformation thermoresponsiveness polyglutamic acid side chain thioether linker.

A series of side-chain thioether-linked OEGylated poly(glutamic acid) (PGAs) have been synthesized by “”thiol-ene”” synthetic methodol., where both the oligo-ethylene glycol (OEG) length and the hydrophobic linkers at the side chains are varied to learn how these structural features affect the secondary structure and thermoresponsive behaviors in water. Before side-chain oxidation, the structural factors affecting the α-helicity include the backbone length, the OEG length, and the hydrophobic linkers’ length at the side chains; however, the OEG length plays the most crucial role among these factors because longer OEG around the peripheral side chains can stop water penetration into the backbone to disturb the intramol. H bonds, which finally allows stabilizing the α-helix; after the oxidation, the polypeptides show increased α-helicity because of the enhanced hydrophilicity. More interestingly, a rare oxidation-induced conformation transition from the ordered β-sheet to the ordered α-helix can be achieved. In addition, only the OEGylated poly(glutamic acids) (PGAs) with shorter hydrophobic linkers and longer OEG can display the thermoresponsive properties before the oxidation but the subsequent oxidation can cause the polypeptides bearing longer hydrophobic linkers to exhibit the thermosensitivity since sulfone formation at the side chain can lead to final hydrophilicity-hydrophobicity balance. This work is meaningful to understand the secondary structure-associated solution behaviors of the synthetic polypeptides.

Polymer Chemistry published new progress about Chain transfer agents. 76-84-6 belongs to class alcohols-buliding-blocks, and the molecular formula is C19H16O, Safety of Triphenylmethanol.

Liu, Na; Zhang, Jince; Wen, Jingyi; You, Xiaolei; Fang, Dawei published the artcile< Immortal polymerization of LA: the influence of steric effects, electronic effects and pKa on chain transfer agents>, Safety of Triphenylmethanol, the main research area is lactide immortal ring opening polymerization chain transfer agent; steric electronic effect.

The “”immortal”” ring-opening polymerization (iROP) of L-LA, catalyzed by ligand-free Ca[N(SiMe3)2]2(THF)2 in combination with different chain transfer agents (alcs., phenols and PhCH2NH2) was systematically investigated for the first time. When alcs. were used as CTAs (pKa: 14.36-12.73), the polymerization proceeded smoothly and efficiently in excess of PhCH2OH and Ph2CHOH feeding, through which the mol. weights of the obtained PLAs could be precisely controlled by the monomer/alcs. and the mol. weight distributions were maintained at a very narrow level, showing a typically immortal characterization. Upon increasing the steric effect of the alc. (Ph3COH), the activity became lower and the mol. weight distribution became broader than those of PhCH2OH and Ph2CHOH, indicating that the steric effect of alcs. has a significant influence on the iROP of LA. Whereas for the phenol-based CTAs (pKa: 10.17-7.15), the electronic effect was obvious for the ROP of L-LA. The study of the active species indicated that the Ca-O group was the initiation group for alc.- and phenol-based systems. There exists two active species (Ca-NHCH2Ph/Ca-N(SiMe3)2) in the Ca[N(SiMe3)2]2(THF)2/PhCH2NH2 system. The polymerization kinetic behaviors showed that the catalytic activity follows the order of PhCH2OH > Ph2CHOH > PhOH > PhCH2NH2. The kapp of Ph2CHOH increased firstly and then decreased with the increase of the CTA, indicating that the CTA promoted the propagation of polymerization firstly and then decreased the propagation of polymerization

The purpose of this study was to optimize the extraction method for polysaccharide from the fruiting bodies of Pleurotus ostreatus (Jacq.) P.Kumm and to assess the antioxidant and cytotoxic potentials of polysaccharide. In this investigation, polysaccharides from Pleurotus ostreatus (Jacq.) P.Kumm were extricated by utilizing the hot water. One-single factor and response surface methodol. was established to optimize the extraction conditions for polysaccharide from Pleurotus ostreatus (Jacq.) P.Kumm. Examination of antioxidant activity of Pleurotus ostreatus polysaccharide (POP) was directed by utilizing 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2, 2-azino-bis-3-ethyl-benzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) techniques. Cytotoxicity of POP was evaluated using an MTT assay. The exptl. data were fitted to a quadratic equation utilizing multiple regression investigations, and the ideal conditions were as per the following: water/crude material proportion, 26.04 mL/g; an extraction time of 62.08 min; and an extraction temperature 70.5°C. Under such conditions, the polysaccharide yield was 5.32 ± 0.12% with the anticipated yield. POP showed good scavenging activity against DPPH radical (p<0.001, EC50 = 1036.38 μg/mL, R2 = 0.8313) and ABTS radicals (p<0.001, EC50 = 824.37 μg/mL, R2 = 0.8223), with a dose (p<0.001)-and-time (p<0.001) dependent cytotoxic potential on Ehrlich ascites carcinoma cell line in vitro. Nishimura, Taiki; Katsuhara, Satoshi; Lee, Chaehun; Ree, Brian J.; Borsali, Redouane; Yamamoto, Takuya; Tajima, Kenji; Satoh, Toshifumi; Isono, Takuya published the artcile< Fabrication of Ultrafine, Highly Ordered Nanostructures Using Carbohydrate-Inorganic Hybrid Block Copolymers>, Application of C4H8O, the main research area is carbohydrate inorganic hybrid block copolymer ultrafine fabrication; block copolymer; gyroid structure; microphase-separated structure; organic–inorganic hybrid; self-assembly.

Block copolymers (BCPs) have garnered considerable interest due to their ability to form microphase-separated structures suitable for nanofabrication. For these applications, it is critical to achieve both sufficient etch selectivity and a small domain size. To meet both requirements concurrently, we propose the use of oligosaccharide and oligodimethylsiloxane as hydrophilic and etch-resistant hydrophobic inorganic blocks, resp., to build up a novel BCP system, i.e., carbohydrate-inorganic hybrid BCP. The carbohydrate-inorganic hybrid BCPs were synthesized via a click reaction between oligodimethylsiloxane with an azido group at each chain end and propargyl-functionalized maltooligosaccharide (consisting of one, two, and three glucose units). In the bulk state, small-angle X-ray scattering revealed that these BCPs microphase separated into gyroid, asym. lamellar, and sym. lamellar structures with domain-spacing ranging from 5.0 to 5.9 nm depending on the volume fraction. Addnl., we investigated microphase-separated structures in the thin film state and discovered that the BCP with the most asym. composition formed an ultrafine and highly oriented gyroid structure as well as in the bulk state. After reactive ion etching, the gyroid thin film was transformed into a nanoporous-structured gyroid SiO2 material, demonstrating the material’s promising potential as nanotemplates.

A relatively large number of organic and inorganic chem. reagents are air- or moisture-sensitive, and undergraduate students should be trained in their use. When handling such reagents, it is important to select the correct syringe and to use that syringe correctly. We have found that the best syringe for use in an undergraduate setting is a fully plastic polypropylene (PP) Luer lock syringe. While generally safe, such a syringe should be treated as a single-use syringe. Repeated exposure to an organic solvent causes progressively more resistance to the movement of the plunger, or its complete freeze. Thus, when drawing in a volume of liquid that is close to the capacity of the syringe, the plunger could be inadvertently pulled out causing a spill.

Evolution of virulence traits from adaptation to environmental niches other than the host is probably a common feature of marine microbial pathogens, whose knowledge might be crucial to understand their emergence and pathogenetic potential. Here, we report genome sequence anal. of a novel marine bacterial species, Vibrio bathopelagicus sp. nov., isolated from warm bathypelagic waters (3309 m depth) of the Mediterranean Sea. Interestingly, V. bathopelagicus sp. nov. is closely related to coastal Vibrio strains pathogenic to marine bivalves. V. bathopelagicus sp. nov. genome encodes genes involved in environmental adaptation to the deep-sea but also in virulence, such as the R5.7 element, MARTX toxin cluster, Type VI secretion system and zinc-metalloprotease, previously associated with Vibrio infections in farmed oysters. The results of functional in vitro assays on immunocytes (haemocytes) of the Mediterranean mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis and the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas, and of the early larval development assay in Mytilus support strong toxicity of V. bathopelagicus sp. nov. towards bivalves. V. bathopelagicus sp. nov., isolated from a remote Mediterranean bathypelagic site, is an example of a planktonic marine bacterium with genotypic and phenotypic traits associated with animal pathogenicity, which might have played an evolutionary role in the origin of coastal marine pathogens.
