Citrus-white teas (CWs), which possess a balanced flavor of tea and citrus, are becoming more popular worldwide; however, their characteristic flavor and odourants received limited research. Volatile components of two types of CWs prepared from Citrus reticulata Blanco’Chachiensis’ and Camellia sinensis ‘Fudingdabai’ were comprehensively investigated using a combination of stir bar sorptive extraction and gas chromatog.-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Ninety-nine crucial odourants in the CWs were quantified by applying GC-olfactometry/MS, significant differences were compared, and their odor activity values (OAVs) were calculated Twenty-two odourants (in total 2628.09 and 1131.18 mg/kg resp.) were further confirmed as traditional CW (CW-A) and innovated CW (CW-B) characteristic flavor crucial contributors which all possessed > 1 OAVs, particularly limonene (72919 in CW-A) and trans-β-ionone (138953 in CW-B). The unravelling of CWs aroma composition will greatly expanding our understanding of tea aroma chem. and the potential aroma interactions will offer insights into tea blending technologies.

Yu, Zhihui published the artcileComparative analysis of lipid profiles and flavor composition of marinated eggs from different species, Synthetic Route of 124-76-5, the main research area is chicken quail pigeon marinated egg flavor lipid.

This study compared lipid profiles and volatile composition in marinated eggs from different species (chicken, quail, and pigeon) using LC-ESI-MS/MS, and GC-MS, resp. The three marinated eggs showed significant differences in phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), and neutral lipid profiles of the three marinated eggs. Pigeon-eggs contained the highest content of PE but the lowest content of triglycerides. Seventy-six potential lipid metabolites such as Cer(d18:1/21:0), DG(15:0/18:2), and PE-O(16:1/18:2) were selected for the discrimination of all three groups. Pigeon-eggs contained the highest contents of C18:2 and C22:6, as well as n-3 and n-6 PUFA than quail-eggs and chicken-eggs. Major compounds including 2-Nonanone, 1-Octen-3-ol, and cyclic octaat. sulfur have greatly contributed to the distinction of eggs from different species. The highest levels of aldehydes, acids, and ketones were found in chicken-eggs. This study reported that lipidomic and volatile composition anal. are promising approaches for discriminating of marinated eggs from different species. Novelty impact statement : This is the first study that aiming at comparing the lipid profiles and volatile composition in marinated eggs from different species (chicken, quail, and pigeon) using LC-ESI-MS/MS and GC-MS. Gbenou, Joachin D. published the artcilePhytochemical composition of Cymbopogon citratus and Eucalyptus citriodora essential oils and their anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties on Wistar rats, Safety of 2-(2-Hydroxypropan-2-yl)-5-methylcyclohexanol, the main research area is Cymbopogon Eucalyptus essential oil antiinflammatory analgesic.

Cymbopogon citratus and Eucalyptus citriodora are widely used herbs/plants as a source of ethnomedicines in tropical regions of the world. In this work, the authors studied the anti-inflammatory and gastroprotective effects of C. citratus and E. citriodora essential oils on formol-induced edema, and acetic acid induced abdominal cramps in Wistar rats. To fully understand the chem. induced anti-inflammatory properties of these plants, the authors first analyzed the chem. composition of the essential oils. A total of 16 chem. constituents accounting for 93.69 % of the oil, were identified in C. citratus among which, Geranial (27.04 %), neral (19.93 %) and myrcene (27.04 %) were the major constituents. For E. citriodora, 19 compounds representing 97.2 % of the extracted oil were identified. The dominant compound of E. citriodora essential oil was citronellal (83.50 %). In vivo anal. and histol. assay showed that the 2 essential oils displayed significant dose dependent edema inhibition effect over time. They displayed strong analgesic and antipyretic properties similar to that induced by 50 mg/kg of acetylsalicylate of lysine. However, the E. citriodora essential oil was more effective than that of C. citratus. The authors identified significant numbers of aldehyde mols. in both essential oils mediating antioxidant activity that may contribute to the anti-inflammatory effects observed on the rats. Altogether, this work demonstrates the anti-inflammatory property of C. citratus and E. citriodora suggesting their potential role as adjuvant therapeutic alternatives in dealing with inflammatory-related diseases.

A new platform for N-glycoprotein anal. from serum that combines matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI MSI) workflows with antibody slide arrays is described. Antibody panel based (APB) N-glycan imaging allows for the specific capture of N-glycoproteins by antibodies on glass slides and N-glycan anal. in a protein-specific and multiplexed manner. Development of this technique has focused on characterizing two abundant and well-studied human serum glycoproteins, alpha-1-antitrypsin and IgG. Using purified standard solutions and 1 μL samples of human serum, both glycoproteins can be immunocaptured and followed by enzymic release of N-glycans. N-Glycans are detected with a MALDI FT-ICR mass spectrometer in a concentration-dependent manner while maintaining specificity of capture. Importantly, the N-glycans detected via slide-based antibody capture were identical to that of direct anal. of the spotted standards As a proof of concept, this workflow was applied to patient serum samples from individuals with liver cirrhosis to accurately detect a characteristic increase in an IgG N-glycan. This novel approach to protein-specific N-glycan anal. from an antibody panel can be further expanded to include any glycoprotein for which a validated antibody exists. Addnl., this platform can be adapted for anal. of any biofluid or biol. sample that can be analyzed by antibody arrays.

The gut-brain axis and the intestinal microbiota are emerging as key players in health and disease. Shifts in intestinal microbiota composition affect a variety of systems; however, evidence of their direct impact on cognitive functions is still lacking. We tested whether faecal microbiota transplant (FMT) from aged donor mice into young adult recipients altered the hippocampus, an area of the central nervous system (CNS) known to be affected by the ageing process and related functions. Young adult mice were transplanted with the microbiota from either aged or age-matched donor mice. Following transplantation, characterization of the microbiotas and metabolomics profiles along with a battery of cognitive and behavioral tests were performed. Label-free quant. proteomics was employed to monitor protein expression in the hippocampus of the recipients. We report that FMT from aged donors led to impaired spatial learning and memory in young adult recipients, whereas anxiety, explorative behavior and locomotor activity remained unaffected. This was paralleled by altered expression of proteins involved in synaptic plasticity and neurotransmission in the hippocampus. Also, a strong reduction of bacteria associated with short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) production (Lachnospiraceae, Faecalibaculum, and Ruminococcaceae) and disorders of the CNS (Prevotellaceae and Ruminococcaceae) was observed Finally, the detrimental effect of FMT from aged donors on the CNS was confirmed by the observation that microglia cells of the hippocampus fimbria, acquired an ageing-like phenotype; on the contrary, gut permeability and levels of systemic and local (hippocampus) cytokines were not affected. These results demonstrate that age-associated shifts of the microbiota have an impact on protein expression and key functions of the CNS. Furthermore, these results highlight the paramount importance of the gut-brain axis in ageing and provide a strong rationale to devise therapies aiming to restore a young-like microbiota to improve cognitive functions and the declining quality of life in the elderly.

Cranberries (Vaccinium macrocarpon) represent an important source of anthocyanins, flavan-3-ols and flavonols. This study aimed at investigating in vitro the human microbial metabolism of (poly)phenols, principally flavan-3-ols, of unformulated- and phytosome-formulated cranberry extracts After powder characterization, a 24-h fermentation with human faecal slurries was performed, standardizing the concentration of incubated proanthocyanidins. Cranberry (poly)phenol metabolites were quantified by uHPLC-MS2 analyses. The native compounds of both unformulated- and phytosome-formulated cranberry extracts were metabolized under faecal microbiota activity, resulting in twenty-four microbial metabolites. Although some differences appeared when considering different classes of colonic metabolites, no significant differences in the total amount of metabolites were established after 24 h of incubation period. These results suggested that a different formulation had no effect on flavan-3-ol colonic metabolism of cranberry and both unformulated- and phytosome-formulated extract Both formulations displayed the capability to be a potential source of compounds which could lead to a wide array of gut microbiota metabolites in vitro.

Lunyera, Joseph published the artcileUrine tricarboxylic acid cycle signatures of early-stage diabetic kidney disease, Related Products of alcohols-buliding-blocks, the publication is Metabolomics (2022), 18(1), 5, database is CAplus and MEDLINE.

Urine tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle organic anions (OAs) are elevated in diabetes and may be biomarkers for diabetic kidney disease (DKD) progression. We assessed associations of 10 urine TCA cycle OAs with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and eGFR slope. This study is ancillary to the Simultaneous Risk Factor Control Using Telehealth to SlOw Progression of Diabetic Kidney Disease (STOP-DKD) Trial-a randomized trial of pharmacist-led medication and behavior management in 281 patients with early to moderate DKD at Duke from 2014 to 2015. We used linear mixed models to assess associations of urine TCA cycle OAs with outcomes and modelled TCA cycle OAs as: (1) the average of z-scores for each OA; and (2) principal component (PC) scores derived by principal component anal. (PCA). Untargeted urine metabolomics were added for addnl. discovery. Among 132 participants with 24 h urine samples (50% men; 58% Black; mean age 64 years [SD 9]; mean eGFR 74 mL/min/1.73m2 [SD 21] and median urine albumin-to-creatinine [UACR] 20 mg/g [IQR 8-95]), PCA identified 3 OA metabolite PCs. Malate, fumarate, pyruvate, α-ketoglutarate, lactate, succinate and citrate/isocitrate loaded pos. on PC1; methylsuccinate, ethylmalonate and succinate loaded pos. on PC2; and methylmalonate, ethylmalonate and citrate/isocitrate loaded neg. on PC3. Over a median follow-up of 1.8 years (IQR, 1.2 to 2.2), higher average OA z-score was strongly associated with higher eGFR after covariate adjustment (p = 0.01), but not with eGFR slope (p = 0.9). Higher PC3, but not other PCs, was associated with lower eGFR (p < 0.001). Conditional random forests and smooth clipped absolute deviation models confirmed methylmalonate, citrate/isocitrate, and ethylmalonate, and added lactate as top ranked metabolites in models of baseline eGFR (R-squared 0.32 and 0.33, resp.). Untargeted urine metabolites confirmed association of urine TCA cycle OAs with kidney function. Thus, lower urine TCA cycle OAs, most notably lower methylmalonate, ethylmalonate and citrate/isocitrate, are potential indicators of kidney impairment in early stage DKD.
