Waheed, K. published the artcileDiglycolamide Based Mono and Di-Ionic Liquids Having Imidazolium Cation for Effective Extraction and Separation of Pb(II) and Co(II), Recommanded Product: 2,2′-Oxydiacetic acid, the main research area is lead cobalt diglycolamide ionic liquid imidazolium cation extraction separation.

Two glycolamide based functionalized ionic liquids (ILs) having imidazolium cations namely LI (mono-ionic) and LII (di-ionic) were synthesized for the extraction of Pb(II) and Co(II) from waste water. The synthesized ligands were characterized by FTIR and NMR spectroscopy. The extraction efficiency of both mono- and di-ionic liquids was evaluated in terms of contact time, pH of the aqueous phase and metal ion concentration The metal extraction was carried out at various pH values viz. 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 whereas, at contact time of 15, 30, 45, 60, and 75 min. The optimized pH of 4 and equilibration time of 75 min was further utilized for extraction at various metal ions concentration (50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 ppm). LI exhibited low equilibration time as compared to LII whereas, both ligands showed maximum extraction at a pH of 4. A very high extraction efficiency of up to 99% for both metals was observed with LI and LII under optimized conditions. In addition to that effective separation of Co(II) and Pb(II) was observed at pH 10.

Roncal, Tomas published the artcilePurification and concentration of formic acid from formic acid/gluconic acid mixtures by two successive steps of nanofiltration and reactive liquid-liquid extraction, COA of Formula: C8H18O, the main research area is purification concentration formic gluconic acid mixture nanofiltration reactive extraction.

A downstream process for the purification and concentration of formic acid (FA) from FA/gluconic acid (GA) mixtures, obtainable by a coupled biocatalytic reaction of CO2 reduction and glucose oxidation, has been developed. The process involved two technologies: (i) a first nanofiltration (NF) step to sep. FA and GA, and (ii) a second reactive liquid-liquid extraction (RLLE) step to concentrate FA. The NF process, using a Synder NFX membrane, consisted of three NF steps separated into two divergent lines, named permeate and retentate pathways. The first NF was common for both pathways, resulting in a permeate strongly enriched in FA and depleted in GA, and a retentate with opposite characteristics. In the permeate pathway, this first permeate was subjected to a second NF to obtain a 99.6% pure FA permeate. In the retentate pathway, an addnl. NF step on the first retentate resulted in a concentrated 99.4% pure GA retentate. The final diluted FA permeate was concentrated by RLLE using tri-N-octylamine as extractant in n-octanol, and a final back-extraction with NaOH. The optimized RLLE process involved a 100-fold volume decrease and resulted in a final FA solution (as sodium formate) of 174.5 g/L, 78 times more concentrated than the feed.

Mahoney, Lisa B. published the artcileMetabolomic profiling of extraesophageal reflux disease in children, Name: (S)-2-hydroxysuccinic acid, the main research area is extraesophageal reflux disease metabolite profile.

Although respiratory symptoms in children are often attributed to gastroesophageal reflux disease, establishing a clear diagnosis of extraesophageal reflux disease (EERD) can be challenging, as there are no sensitive or specific EERD biomarkers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the metabolite profile in bronchoalveolar (BAL) fluid from children with suspected EERD and assess the impact of reflux treatment on these metabolites. In this prospective pilot study, we performed nontargeted global metabolomic profiling on BAL fluid from 43 children undergoing testing with bronchoscopy, upper endoscopy, and multichannel intraluminal impedance with pH (pH-MII) for evaluation of chronic respiratory symptoms. Twenty-three (54%) patients had an abnormal pH-MII study. Seventeen (40%) patients were on proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for testing. Levels of histamine, malate, AMP, and ascorbate were significantly lower in subjects with abnormal pH-MII studies compared to those normal studies. Furthermore, in children off PPI therapy, those with abnormal pH-MII studies had robust increases in a number of glycerophospholipids within phospholipid metabolic pathways, including derivatives of glycerophosphorylcholine, glycerophosphoglycerol, and glycerophosphoinositol, compared to those with normal pH-MII studies. These findings offer insight into the impact of reflux and PPIs on the lungs and provide a foundation for future studies using targeted metabolomic anal. to identify potential biomarkers of EERD.

Impaired bioenergetics have been reported in veterans with Gulf War illness (VGWIs), including prolonged post-exercise recovery of phosphocreatine (PCr-R) assessed with 31Phosphorus magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The citric acid cycle (CAC) is considered the most important metabolic pathway for supplying energy, with relationships among CAC markers reported to shift in some but not all impaired bioenergetic settings. We sought to assess relations of CAC markers to one another and to PCr-R. Participants were 33 VGWIs and 33 healthy controls 1:1 matched on age-sex-ethnicity. We assessed seven CAC intermediates, and evaluated PCr-R in a subset of matched case-control pairs (N = 14). CAC markers did not significantly differ between cases and controls. Relationships of alpha-ketoglutarate to malate, isocitrate, and succinate were strongly significant in cases with materially weaker relationships in controls, suggesting possible shifts in these markers in concert in VGWIs. PCr-R correlated strongly with five of seven CAC markers in controls (succinate, malate, fumarate, citrate, isocitrate, range r = -0.74 to -0.88), but bore no relationship in VGWIs. In summary, PCr-R related significantly to CAC markers in healthy controls, but not VGWIs. In contrast, relations of CAC markers to one another appeared to shift (often strengthen) in VGWIs.

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture published new progress about Biomarkers. 111-87-5 belongs to class alcohols-buliding-blocks, name is n-Octanol, and the molecular formula is C8H18O, Synthetic Route of 111-87-5.

Xiang, Xiao-le published the artcileNon-destructive characterization of egg odor and fertilization status by SPME/GC-MS coupled with electronic nose, Synthetic Route of 111-87-5, the main research area is egg odor fertilization volatile organic compound SPME electronic nose; SPME/GC-MS; electronic nose; fertile eggs; fertilized eggs; infertile eggs; odor; unfertilized eggs.

BACKGROUND : Early and non-destructive identification of fertile (F) eggs is a difficult task in the process of breeding laying hens. The odors emitted from unfertilized (UF), infertile (IF), and fertile (F) eggs were characterized by solid-phase microextraction / gas chromatograph-mass spectrometry (SPME/GC-MS) and electronic nose (E-nose) to determine their differences by principal component, partial least squares, and canonical discriminant analyses. RESULTS : A total of 14 volatiles were identified in unhatched shell white Leghorn eggs, such as nonanal, decanal, 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one, and 6,10-dimethyl-5,9-undecadien-2-one. Cedrene and decanal contributed greatly to the classification of UF and fertilized (Fd)/IF eggs; cedrene, decanal, 1-octanol and hexanal contributed greatly to the distinction between UF and IF eggs; heptanal might be the potential marker to determine F/IF eggs. P40/1, P10/2, P10/1, TA/2, T40/2 and T30/1, P30/1, P40/2, PA/2, T40/2 mostly contributed to the distinction between UF and Fd eggs and between F and IF eggs, resp. Canonical discriminant anal. presented superior differentiating efficiency for almost all groups, and the odor differences between UF and Fd eggs were significantly larger than the differences between F and IF eggs. CONCLUSION : Solid-phase microextraction / gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer combined with E-nose may have the potential to non-destructively distinguish UF, F, and IF eggs, which will provide a new perspective to understand the differences among them. © 2018 Society of Chem. Branco, Renato Chaves Souto published the artcileProtein malnutrition mitigates the effects of a high-fat diet on glucose homeostasis in mice, Recommanded Product: (S)-2-hydroxysuccinic acid, the main research area is mouse glucose homeostasis HFD protein malnutrition; fat-enriched diet; gastrocnemius; insulin sensitivity; protein restriction.

Nutrient malnutrition, during the early stages of development, may facilitate the onset of metabolic diseases later in life. However, the consequences of nutritional insults, such as a high-fat diet (HFD) after protein restriction, are still controversial. We assessed overall glucose homeostasis and mol. markers of mitochondrial function in the gastrocnemius muscle of protein-restricted mice fed an HFD until early adulthood. Male C57BL/6 mice were fed a control (14% protein-control diet) or a protein-restricted (6% protein-restricted diet) diet for 6 wk. Afterward, mice received an HFD or not for 8 wk (mice fed a control diet and HFD [CH] and mice fed a protein-restricted diet and HFD [RH]). RH mice showed lower weight gain and fat accumulation and did not show an increase in fasting plasma glucose and insulin levels compared with CH mice. RH mice showed higher energy expenditure, increased citrate synthase, peroxisome-proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha protein content, and higher levels of malate and α-ketoglutarate compared with CH mice. Moreover, RH mice showed increased AMPc-dependent kinase and acetyl coenzyme-A (CoA) carboxylase phosphorylation, lower i.m. triacylglycerol content, and similar malonyl-CoA levels. In conclusion, protein undernourishment after weaning does not potentiate fat accumulation and insulin resistance in adult young mice fed an HFD. This outcome seems to be associated with increased skeletal muscle mitochondrial oxidative capacity and reduced lipids accumulation.

Untargeted metabolomics approaches are emerging as powerful tools for the quality evaluation and authenticity of food and beverages and have been applied to wine science. However, most fail to report the method validation, quality assurance and/or quality control applied, as well as the assessment through the metabolomics-methodol. pipeline. Knowledge of Mexican viticulture, enol. and wine science remains scarce, thus untargeted metabolomics approaches arise as a suitable tool. The aim of this study is to validate an untargeted HS-SPME-GC-qTOF/MS method, with attention to data processing to characterize Cabernet Sauvignon wines from two vineyards and two vintages. Validation parameters for targeted methods are applied in conjunction with the development of a recursive anal. of data. The combination of some parameters for targeted studies (repeatability and reproducibility < 20% RSD; linearity > 0.99; retention-time reproducibility < 0.5% RSD; match-identification factor < 2.0% RSD) with recursive anal. of data (101 entities detected) warrants that both chromatog. and spectrometry-processing data were under control and provided high-quality results, which in turn differentiate wine samples according to site and vintage. It also shows potential biomarkers that can be identified. This is a step forward in the pursuit of Mexican wine characterization that could be used as an authentication tool. Metal nanoclusters (NCs) with excellent photoluminescence properties are an emerging functional material that have rich phys. and chem. properties and broad application prospects. However, it is a challenging problem to construct such materials into complex ordered aggregates and cause aggregation-induced emission (AIE). In this article, we use the supramol. self-assembly strategy to regulate a water-soluble, atomically precise Ag NCs (NH4)9[Ag9(C7H4SO2)9] (Ag9-NCs, [Ag9(mba)9], H2mba = 2-mercaptobenzoic acid) and L-malic acid (L-MA) to form a phosphorescent hydrogel with stable and bright luminescence, which is ascribed to AIE phenomenon. In this process, the AIE of Ag9-NCs could be attributed to the non-covalent interactions between L-MA and Ag9-NCs, which restrict the intramol. vibration and rotation of ligands on the periphery of Ag9-NCs, thus inhibiting the ligand-related, non-radiative excited state relaxation and promoting radiation energy transfer. In addition, the fluorescent Ag9-NCs/L-MA xerogel was introduced into polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) to form an excellently fluorescent film for sensing of Fe3+. Ag9-NCs/L-MA/PMMA film exhibits an excellent ability to recognize Fe3+ ion with high selectivity and a low detection limit of 0.3 μM. This research enriches self-assembly system for enhancing the AIE of metal NCs, and the prepared hybrid films will become good candidates for optical materials.

Mixtures of three solvents, with two immiscible liquids and a third one miscible to both – the solvotrope, may exhibit structuration. We explore the phase diagram of n-octanol/ethanol/water, where ethanol is the hydrotrope, varying composition from the water-rich side to the n-octanol-rich side at constant ethanol fraction. We resolve nanometer-sized structures exptl. by mean of four contrasts: three from Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) and one from Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS). On the water-rich side, we confirm the existence of droplets associated to a critical point stabilized by an excess adsorption of the hydrotrope: the ultra-flexible microemulsion (UFME) domain. The n-octanol-rich side is better described as a dynamic random network of chain-like associations of hydroxy groups. The continuous evolution from oil clusters to a dynamic network of hydroxy groups is demonstrated by the features of scattering patterns, successfully compared for all contrasts to Mol. Dynamics (MD) simulations, allowing to illustrate with snapshots the structuration of solvents. The free energy of transfer of the hydrotrope obtained from MD is low (âˆ? kBT/mol.). This study suggests that Ouzo spontaneous emulsions may be in dynamic equilibrium with a pre-Ouzo, similarly to nanoemulsions kinetically stabilized by the co-existence of a microemulsion.
