Versatile redox catalysts play the significant roles in alcohol oxidations, in which the mechanisms for homogeneous and heterogeneous alcohol oxidations are generally different. This work introduced a Lewis acid (LA) promoted homogeneous alcohol oxidation with Pd (OAc)(2) catalyst by using oxygen balloon as the oxidant source. It was found that adding Lewis acid such as Sc (OTf)(3) significantly accelerated Pd (II)-catalyzed alcohol oxidations; notably, the time courses of oxidations monitored by GC and H-1 NMR disclosed that there existed two processes including the initial sluggish oxidation followed by a rapid oxidation. The promotional effect of Lewis acid was attributed to the formation of heterobimetallic Pd (II)/LA species, which improved the oxidizing power of the palladium (II) species, thus accelerating alcohol oxidation in the induction period. Correlating the sizes of in situ generated palladium nanoparticles with the time course of alcohol oxidation further disclosed that the loosely, spherically large nanoparticles, which were composed of many tiny nanoparticles having the size less than 10 nm, were responsible for the rapid oxidation, whereas those highly dispersed, tiny nanoparticles having the size less than 10 nm were not responsible for the rapid oxidation.

Herein, we report a combination of pyrenedione (PD) and KO’Bu to achieve facile alcohol dehydrogenation under visible-light excitation, where aerobic oxygen is utilized as the terminal oxidant. The resulting carbonyl compound can be easily converted to vinyl nitriles in a single-pot reaction, at 60 degrees C in 6-8 h. This environmentally benign, organocatalytic approach has distinct advantages over transition-metal-catalyzed a-olefination of nitriles, which often operate at a significantly higher temperature for an extended reaction time.

A redox-active iminoquinone motif connected with pi-delocalized pyrene core has been reported that can perform efficient two-electron oxidation of a class of substrates. The design of the molecule was inspired by the organic redox cofactor topaquinone (TPQ), which executes amine oxidation in the enzyme, copper amine oxidase. Easy oxidation of both primary and secondary alcohols happened in the presence of catalytic KOtBu, which could reduce the ligand backbone to its iminosemiquinonate form under photoinduced conditions. Moreover, this easy oxidation of alcohols under aerobic condition could be elegantly extended to multi-component, one-pot coupling for the synthesis of quinoline and pyrimidine. This organocatalytic approach is very mild (70 degrees C, 8 h) compared to a multitude of transition-metal catalysts that have been used to prepare these heterocycles. A detailed mechanistic study proves the intermediacy of the iminosemiquinonate-type radical and a critical hydrogen atom transfer step to be involved in the dehydrogenation reaction.

An efficient method for catalyzing the ammoxidation of aromatic alcohols to aromatic nitriles was developed, in which a new heterogeneous catalyst based on transition metal elements was employed, the new catalyst was named Co-[Bmim]Br/C-700 and then characterized by X-ray photo-electronic spectroscopy, transmission electron microscope and X-ray diffraction. The reaction was carried out by two consecutive dehydrogenations under the catalysis of Co-[Bmim]Br/C-700, which catalytically oxidized the alcohol to the aldehyde, and then the aldehyde was subjected to ammoxidation to the nitrile. The catalyst system was suitable for a wide range of substrates and nitriles obtained in high yields, especially, the conversion rate of benzyl alcohol, 4-methoxybenzyl alcohol, 4-chlorobenzyl alcohol and 4-nitrobenzyl alcohol reached 100%. The substitution of ammonia and oxygen for toxic cyanide to participate in the reaction accords with the theory of green chemistry.

Upon visible-light irradiation, the heterogeneous polymer of PDI-Cu(I)-PDI (PDI = perylene diimide) generates charge transfer states that are subsequently quenched by molecular oxygen for their participation in redox activity. This insoluble polymeric Cu(I) is catalytically active for the oxidation of benzylic alcohols to corresponding aldehydes when suspended in dynamic micelles of PS-750-M. A broad substrate scope, excellent selectivity, and no over-oxidation reveal the catalyst robustness. The catalytic activity, control experiments, and time-dependent DFT calculations show the charge transfer states. The polymeric catalyst is entirely recyclable, as evidenced by the recycle studies using Scott’s recyclability test. The morphology, structure, copper’s oxidation state, and the catalyst’s thermal stability are determined by SEM, XPS, and TGA analysis.

The asymmetric total synthesis of (+)-xestoquinone and (+)-adociaquinones A and B was achieved in 6-7 steps using an easily accessible meso-cyclohexadienone derivative. The [6,6]-bicyclic decalin B-C ring and the all-carbon quaternary stereocenter at C-6 were prepared via a desymmetric intramolecular Michael reaction with up to 97% ee. The naphthalene diol D-E ring was constructed through a sequence of Ti(Oi-Pr)(4)-promoted photoenolization/Diels-Alder, dehydration, and aromatization reactions. This asymmetric strategy provides a scalable route to prepare target molecules and their derivatives for further biological studies.

Highly regioselective intramolecular aminolysis of 3,4-epoxy amines has been achieved. Key features of this reaction are (1) chemoselective activation of epoxides in the presence of unprotected aliphatic amines in the same molecules by a La(OTf)(3) catalyst and (2) excellent regioselectivity for anti-Baldwin 5-endo-tet cyclization. This reaction affords 3-hydroxy-2-alkylpyrrolidines stereospecifically in high yields. DFT calculations revealed that the regioselectivity might be attributed to distortion energies of epoxy amine substrates. The use of this reaction was demonstrated by the first enantioselective synthesis of an antispasmodic agent prifinium bromide.

The Name is (4-Methoxyphenyl)methanol. Through research, I have a further understanding and discovery of 105-13-5.

In this study, a green deep eutectic solvent (DES) was synthesized at room temperature-based choline chloride (ChCl) and 4-methoxybenzyl alcohol (Anisyl alcohol (An-OH)) used as the conductive binder for modification of carbon paste electrode (CPE). In addition, single wall carbon nanotubes decorated by ZrO2 (SWCNT-ZrO2) nanocomposite was synthesized by the hydrothermal method and characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDAX), and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) analytical techniques. The DES and SWCNT-ZrO2 were used as a binder and modifier in the carbon paste electrode structure to form CPE/DES/SWCNT-ZrO2 as an electrochemical sensor for the simultaneous determination of paracetamol and rizatriptan as two anti-migration drugs for the first time. In the direction of optimal experimental conditions, the effective parameters such as pH, amount of modifier, and electrolyte type were optimized. Under these conditions, the limits of detection (LODs) 0.7 nM and 9.0 nM; linear dynamic ranges (LDRs) 0.003?100 and 0.08?100; and relative standard deviations (RSDs for n = 5) 1.63 and 1.52 were sequentially found for rizatriptan and paracetamol. The results indicate that the sensor can be applied for the detection of trace amounts of paracetamol and rizatriptan in clinical and pharmaceutical samples.
