Acceptorless double dehydrogenative cross-coupling of secondary and primary alcohols under nickel catalysis is reported. This Guerbet type reaction provides an atom- and a step-economical method for the C-alkylation of secondary alcohols under mild, benign conditions. A broad range of substrates including aromatic, cyclic, acyclic, and aliphatic alcohols was well tolerated. Interestingly, the C-alkylation of cholesterol derivatives and the double C-alkylation of cyclopentanol with various alcohols were also demonstrated.

Hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP)-catalyzed direct dehydroxydifluoro-alkylation of benzylic and allylic alcohols with difluoroenoxysilanes is developed. This procedure enables the synthesis of a broad range of alpha,alpha-difluoroketones, a class of highly valuable intermediates and building blocks in medicinal and organic chemistry. Here, we have demonstrated for the first time that HFIP could act as a powerful catalyst for fluorinated carbon-carbon bond formation. The application of this protocol in late-stage dehydroxydifluoroalkylation of potentially bioactive drugs and natural products has also been carried out.

I found the field of Chemistry very interesting. 2-Aryl-2,3-dihydroquinolin-4(1H)-ones have recently been identified as important structures with potent biological activities such as antitumor and antidiabetic effect. Herein, a total of 25 novel N-Tf 2-aryl-2,3-dihydroquinolin-4(1H)-ones were expediently synthesized via the oxidative aza-Michael cyclization of N-Tf-2 ‘-aminodihydrochalcones by ligand-free palladium(II) catalysis. This study presents a new synthetic approach to yield N-Tf 2-aryl-2,3-dihydroquinolin-4(1H)-ones, which can be easily transformed into pharmacologically interesting aza-flavanones and other N-heterocycles, such as quinolines and tetrahydroquinolines, in yields up to 84 %. This methodology has various advantages, which includes short reaction times under mild conditions and suitable functional group tolerance. Furthermore, a plausible mechanism was proposed and demonstrated by kinetic analysis.

BackgroundPoor awareness of obstetric danger signs is a major contributing factor to delays in seeking obstetric care and hence to high maternal mortality and morbidity worldwide. We conducted the current study to assess the level of agreement on receipt of counseling on obstetric danger signs between direct observations of antenatal care (ANC) consultation and women’s recall in the exit interview. We also identified factors associated with pregnant women’s awareness of obstetric danger signs during pregnancy in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)MethodsWe used data from the 2017-2018 DRC Service Provision Assessment survey. Agreement between the observation and woman’s recall was measured using Cohen’s kappa statistic and percent agreement. Multivariable Zero-Inflated Poisson (ZIP) regression was used to identify factors associated with the number of danger signs during pregnancy the woman knew.ResultsOn average, women were aware of 1.51.34 danger signs in pregnancy (range: 0 to 8). Agreement between observation and woman’s recall was 70.7%, with a positive agreement of 16.9% at the country level but ranging from 2.1% in Bandundu to 39.7% in Sud Kivu. Using multivariable ZIP analysis, the number of obstetric danger signs the women mentioned was significantly higher in multigravida women (Adj.IRR=1.38; 95% CI: 1.23-1.55), in women attending a private facility (Adj.IRR=1.15; 95% CI: 1.01-1.31), in women attending a subsequent ANC visit (Adj.IRR=1.11; 95% CI: 1.01-1.21), and in women counseled on danger signs during the ANC visit (Adj.IRR=1.19; 95% CI: 1.05-1.35). There was a regional variation in the awareness of danger signs, with the least mentioned signs in the middle and the most in the eastern provinces.ConclusionsOur findings indicated poor agreement between directly observed counseling and women’s reports that counseling on obstetric danger signs occurred during the current ANC visit. We found that province of residence, provision of counseling on obstetric danger signs, facility ownership, gravidity and the number of ANC visits were predictors of the awareness of obstetric danger signs among pregnant women. These factors should be considered when developing strategies aim at improving women’s awareness about obstetric danger signs in the DRC

An efficient method for the Ni-catalyzed C3-alkylation of indoles using readily available alcohols as the alkylating reagents has been developed. The alkylation was addressed with an air and moisture-stable binuclear nickel complex ligated by tetrahydroquinolin-8-one as the effective pre-catalyst. The newly developed transformation could accommodate a broad substrate scope including primary/secondary benzylic and aliphatic alcohols and substituted indoles. Mechanistic studies suggested that the reaction proceeds through a borrowing hydrogen pathway.

In this research, we have developed a mild electrochemical process for oxidative amidation of benzyl alcohols/aromatic aldehydes with cyclic amines into the corresponding benzamides. This electroorganic synthetic method proceeds using NaI as a redox mediator under ambient temperature in undivided cell, providing more than 25 examples of amide products in moderate to good yields. The benefits of this reaction include one-pot synthesis, open air condition, proceed in aqueous media and no requirement of external conducting salt, base and oxidant. (C) 2021 Elsevier Ltd. In this study, a commercially available homogeneous pincer-type complex, Ru-Macho, was directly heterogenized via the Lewis acid-catalyzed Friedel-Crafts reaction using dichloromethane as the cross-linker to obtain a heterogeneous, pincer-type Ru porous organometallic polymer (Ru-Macho-POMP) with a high surface area. Notably, Ru-Macho-POMP was demonstrated to be an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the chemoselective hydrogenation of alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds to their corresponding allylic alcohols using cinnamaldehyde as a model compound. The Ru-Macho-POMP catalyst showed a high turnover frequency (TOF = 920 h(-1)) and a high turnover number (TON = 2750), with high chemoselectivity (99%) and recyclability during the selective hydrogenation of alpha, beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds.
