Transition-metal-catalyzed multicomponent carbonylation is one of the most efficient strategies to construct carbonyl-containing compounds Herein, a palladium-catalyzed four-component perfluoroalkylation/aminocarbonylation of unactivated alkenes with perfluoroalkyl halides, and amines was developed. A wide range of substrates, including anilines, alkylamines, sulfonamides, and hydrazines are all suitable reaction partners for this catalyst system, resulting in various β-perfluoroalkyl amides with good functional-group tolerance and excellent chemoselectivity. Furthermore, not only alkyl olefins, but also aliphatic alkynes, and even alkyl allenes can all be employed. Notably, several medical and bioactive related mols. are compatible here as well.

The diphenylmethane-diphenylmethyl anion acid/base couple in N,N-dimethylformamide is taken as an example for investigating the dynamics of proton transfer at carbon in a system where the acid is not activated by an electron-withdrawing group or by removal of an electron. The laser flash electron photoinjection technique is applied to the determination of the rate constant for the protonation of diphenylmethyl anion by an extended series of acids that offers a range of driving forces encompassing over 1.2 eV. The plot of the rate constant vs. the pKa difference between diphenylmethane and the acids or of the activation free energy vs. the standard free energy of the reaction exhibits clear “inverted region” behavior (by a factor of 80 in terms of rate constants). While such behaviors have been predicted and observed for outer-sphere electron-transfer reactions, previous evidence for proton-transfer reactions was scarce. Entropic factors, derived from an investigation of the temperature dependence of the exptl. rate constants, are also discussed.

At 2.5 mol % loadings using reaction temperatures between 30-55 °C, ortho-functionalized diaryl diselenides are highly effective organocatalytic oxidants for aerobic redox dehydrative amidic and peptidic bond formation using tri-Et phosphite as a simple terminal reductant. This simple-to-perform organocatalytic reaction relies on the ability of selenols to react directly with dioxygen in air without recourse to metal catalysts. It represents an important step toward the development of a general, economical, and benign catalytic redox dehydration protocol.

Air pollution poses a major threat to global public health. Although there have been a few investigations into the relationships between organic pollutants and adverse outcomes, the responsible components and mol. mechanisms may be ignored. In this study, a suspect screening method combining comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatog. – time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC x GC-TOFMS) with Toxicity Forecaster (ToxCast) database was applied to analyze complex hydrophobic compounds in ambient air and prospectively figure out toxicol. significant compounds 76 ToxCast compounds were screened, including 7 pollutants receiving less attention and 5 chems. never published in the air previously. Given the concentrations, bioactivities, as well as absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion properties in vivo, 29 contaminants were assigned high priority since they had active biol. effects in the vascular, lung, liver, kidney, prostate and bone tissues. Phenotypic linkages of key pollutants to potential mechanistic pathways were explored by systems toxicol. A total of 267 chem.-effect pathways involving 29 toxicants and 31 mol. targets were mapped in bipartite network, in which 12 key pathogenic pathways were clarified, which not only provided the evidence supporting previous hypothesis but also provided new insights into the mol. targets. The results would facilitate the development of pollutant priority control, population intervention and clin. therapeutic strategies so as to substantially reduce human health hazards induced by urban air.

Dianhong tea (DHT) is popular for its pleasant caramel-like aroma. In this study, the aroma profile of high-grade DHT have been studied using gas chromatog.-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and gas chromatog.-olfactometry (GC-O) combined with headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME). A total of 52 aroma-active compounds were identified by GC-O coupled with aroma extract dilution anal. (AEDA) and odor specific magnitude estimation (Osme). Among them, quantification of 21 aroma-active compounds indicated that the content of linalool (5928μg/kg) was the highest in high-grade DHT, followed by phenylethanol (3923μg/kg) and phenylacetaldehyde (1801μg/kg). Sensory-directed aroma recombination and omission tests further verified that phenylacetaldehyde, linalool, geraniol and 3-ethyl-2,5-dimethylpyrazine were important contributors to the overall sensory characteristics of high-grade DHT which dominated mainly by floral, sweet and caramel-like odors. This work will provide a theor. reference for comprehensively understanding the aroma characteristic of DHT.
