After addition of sodium bicarbonate aqueous solution, the reaction mixture was extracted with methylene chloride. The extract was washed with saturated brine, and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. After filtration, the filtrate was concentrated to obtain 3,7,11,15-tetramethylhexadec-2-ene-1-chloride as a crude product.
