For the first time, two new oxovanadium and dioxomolybdenum Schiff base complexes, VOL(OMe) and MoO2L, were synthesized through the reaction of a ONO tridentate Schiff base ligand (H2L) derived from the condensation of 5-bromosalicylaldehyde and nicotinic hydrazide with oxo and dioxo acetylacetonate salts of vanadium and molybdenum, [VO(acac)(2) and MoO2(acac)2], respectively. The synthesized ligand and complexes were characterized by various spectroscopic techniques like FT-IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, elemental analysis (CHN) and the most authentic single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis (SC-XRD). The geometry around the central metal ion in MoO2L was distorted octahedral as revealed by the data collected from diffraction studies. Non-covalent interactions that are responsible for crystal packing are explored by Hirshfeld surface analysis. Theoretical calculations of the synthesized compounds, carried out by DFT at B3LYP/Def2-TZVP level of theory, indicated that the calculated results are in agreement with the experimental findings. Moreover, the catalytic activities of both complexes were investigated for the selective oxidation of benzylic alcohols using urea hydrogen peroxide (UHP) in acetonitrile. (C) 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Three new Ni-II/Co-II-metal organic frameworks were self-assembled by the reaction of C-3 symmetric 1,3,5-tribenzoic acid (H3BTC) and 2,4,6-tris(4-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine (4-TPT) ligands and Ni-II/Co-II salts under solvothermal conditions. Isomorphous MOF1 and MOF2 exhibit a 3D pillar-layer framework based on binuclear M-2(OH)(COO)(2) units connected by tritopic BTC3- and 4-TPT ligands with a novel (3,5)-connected topology net. MOF3 displays a 3-fold interpenetrated 3D network exhibiting a (3,4)-connected topology net. The porous MOF3 can reversibly take up I-2. The activated MOFs contain both Lewis acid (Ni-II center) and basic (uncoordinated pyridyl or carboxylic groups) sites, and act as bifunctional acid-base catalysts. The catalytic measurements demonstrate that the activated MOF3 exhibits good activities for benzyl alcohol oxidation and the Knoevenagel reaction and can be recycled and reused for at least four cycles without losing its structural integrity and high catalytic activity. Thus, the catalytic properties for the oxidation-Knoevenagel cascade reaction have also been studied.

The ring-opening of epoxides is a synthetically significant process widely applied in all kinds of chemistry. Herein, we report the catalytic and highly enantioselective variant of this reaction exploiting our recent endeavors to design and synthesize chiral bipyridine type ligands. A Sc-complex with a newly developed bipyridine ligand exhibited high reactivity and stereocontrol in the desymmetrization of meso-epoxides with various alcohols. The respective enantiomerically enriched 1,2-alkoxyalcohols were obtained with e.r. values of up to 99.5:0.5 for various alcohols regardless of their nature (benzyl, alkyl, cycloalkyl, allyl, propargyl, etc.). We attempted ring-opening of meso-epoxides with anilines as well; however, it proceeded with lower enantioselectivity and was strongly depended on the electronic effect of substituents attached to the aromatic ring.

New types of C-2-symmetric chiral macrodiolides are readily obtained via chiral N,N ‘-dioxide-scandium(iii) complex-promoted asymmetric tandem Friedel-Crafts alkylation/intermolecular macrolactonization of ortho-quinone methides with C3-substituted indoles. This protocol provides an array of enantioenriched macrodiolides with 16, 18 or 20-membered rings in moderate to good yields with high diastereoselectivities and excellent enantioselectivities through adjusting the length of the tether at the C3 position of indoles. Density functional theory calculations indicate that the formation of macrocycles is more favorable than that of 9-membered-ring lactones in terms of kinetics and thermodynamics. The potential utility of these intriguing chiral macrodiolide molecules is demonstrated in the enantiomeric recognition of aminols and chemical recognition of metal ions.

A new magnetically recoverable catalyst consisting of phenanthroline Cu(II) complex supported on nickel ferrite nanoparticles was prepared. The synthesized catalyst was characterized by Fourier transform in-frared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission and scanning electron microscopes, thermogravimetry, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometry and inductively coupled plasma. Supported copper complex used for solvent free oxidation of 1-phenyl ethanol as a model. Influence of the reaction parameters (kind of oxidant, amount of the catalyst, reaction time, solvent and reaction temperature) were studied. Because of the immobilized complex has been shown to be an efficient het-erogeneous catalyst for the selective oxidation of 1-phenyl ethanol to acetophenone (94% yield) by hydro-gen peroxide so this green approach extended to other benzylic alcohols. The catalyst had been reused 10 times with no significant loss of catalytic activity. SEM, EDX, XRD, and ICP analysis of reused catalyst indicated that the catalyst was stable after the reaction. H-ficolin recognizes patterns on microorganisms and stressed cells and can activate the lectin pathway of the complement system. We aimed to assess H-ficolin in relation to the progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD), all-cause mortality, diabetes-related mortality, and cardiovascular events. Event rates per 10-unit H-ficolin-increase were compared in an observational follow-up of 2,410 individuals with type 1 diabetes from the FinnDiane Study. DKD progression occurred in 400 individuals. The unadjusted hazard ratio (HR) for progression was 1.29 (1.18-1.40) and 1.16 (1.05-1.29) after adjustment for diabetes duration, sex, HbA(1c), systolic blood pressure, and smoking status. After adding triglycerides to the model, the HR decreased to 1.07 (0.97-1.18). In all, 486 individuals died, including 268 deaths of cardiovascular causes and 192 deaths of complications to diabetes. HRs for all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality were 1.13 (1.04-1.22) and 1.05 (0.93-1.17), respectively, in unadjusted analyses. These estimates lost statistical significance in adjusted models. However, the unadjusted HR for diabetes-related mortality was 1.19 (1.05-1.35) and 1.18 (1.02-1.37) with the most stringent adjustment level. Our results, therefore, indicate that H-ficolin predicts diabetes-related mortality, but neither all-cause mortality nor fatal/non-fatal cardiovascular events. Furthermore, H-ficolin is associated with DKD progression, however, not independently of the fully adjusted model.

The Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley (MPV) reaction is an attractive approach to selectively reduce carbonyl groups, and the design of advanced catalysts is the key for these kinds of interesting reactions. Herein, we fabricated a novel zirconium organoborate using 1,4-benzenediboronic acid (BDB) as the precursor for MPV reduction. The prepared Zr-BDB had excellent catalytic performance for the MPV reduction of various biomass-derived carbonyl compounds (i.e., levulinate esters, aldehydes and ketones). More importantly, the number of borate groups on the ligands significantly affected the catalytic activity of the Zr-organic ligand hybrids, owing to the activation role of borate groups on hydroxyl groups in the hydrogen source. Detailed investigations revealed that the excellent performance of Zr-BDB was contributed by the synergetic effect of Zr4+ and borate. Notably, this is the first work to enhance the activity of Zr-based catalysts in MPV reactions using borate groups.

Fused pyrimidines, especially pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidines, are among the most preferred building blocks for pharmacology studies, as they exhibit a broad spectrum of biological activity. In this study, new derivatives of pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine were synthesized by alkylation of the N1 nitrogen atom. We synthesized 3-iodo-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin-4-amine 2 from commercially available aminopyrazolopyrimidine 1 using N-iodosuccinimide as an iodinating agent. The synthesis of compound 2 started with nucleophilic substitution of 3-iodo-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin-4-amine with R-X (X: -OMs, -Br, -Cl), affording N-alkylated pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine. We performed this synthesis using a weak inorganic base and the mild temperature was also used for a two-step procedure to generate N-alkylated pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine derivatives. Also, all compounds were tested for their ability to inhibit acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and the human carbonic anhydrase (hCA) isoforms I and II, with K-i values in the range of 15.41 +/- 1.39-63.03 +/- 10.68 nM for AChE, 17.68 +/- 1.92-66.27 +/- 5.43 nM for hCA I, and 8.41 +/- 2.03-28.60 +/- 7.32 nM for hCA II. Notably, compound 10 was the most selective and potent CA I inhibitor with a significant selectivity ratio of 26.90.

2-Aryl-2,3-dihydroquinolin-4(1H)-ones have recently been identified as important structures with potent biological activities such as antitumor and antidiabetic effect. Herein, a total of 25 novel N-Tf 2-aryl-2,3-dihydroquinolin-4(1H)-ones were expediently synthesized via the oxidative aza-Michael cyclization of N-Tf-2 ‘-aminodihydrochalcones by ligand-free palladium(II) catalysis. This study presents a new synthetic approach to yield N-Tf 2-aryl-2,3-dihydroquinolin-4(1H)-ones, which can be easily transformed into pharmacologically interesting aza-flavanones and other N-heterocycles, such as quinolines and tetrahydroquinolines, in yields up to 84 %. This methodology has various advantages, which includes short reaction times under mild conditions and suitable functional group tolerance. Furthermore, a plausible mechanism was proposed and demonstrated by kinetic analysis.

In this study, a magnetic asymmetric Salamo-based Zn complex (H2L = salen type di-Schiff bases)-supported on the surface of modified Fe3O4 (Fe3O4@H2L-Zn) as a new catalyst was designed and characterized via numerous analytical techniques such as FT-IR spectroscopy, XRD, EDS, ICP-AES, SEM, TEM, TGA and VSM. An efficient and sustainable synthetic protocol has been presented for the synthesis of silyl ether substructures via the silyl protection of alcohols under mild conditions. The synthetic protocol involves a two-component solvent-free reaction between various hydroxyl-bearing substrates and hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) as an inexpensive silylating agent using Fe3O4@H2L-Zn MNPs as a magnetically separable, recyclable and reusable heterogeneous catalyst. Fe3O4@H2L-Zn MNPs were also applied for the removal of silyl protecting groups from hydroxyl functions using water in CH2Cl2 under green conditions. The catalyst demonstrated good to excellent catalytic yield efficiency for both the reactions compared to the commercial metal-based catalysts under green conditions for a wide range of substrates.
