Supercritical CO2 was used for the production of extracts from Acacia dealbata flowers. Pressures from 10 to 35 MPa and temperatures from 35? to 55?C were studied to assess their influence on the yield, antiradical properties and composition of the volatiles. The use of ethanol as modifier was also evaluated. Operating at 30 MPa and 45 ?C with 10% ethanol, up to 15% of the ethanol extractables were obtained in 3 h. The selectivity towards alcohol type compounds decreased with time and was enhanced in a sequence of static extraction with pure and ethanol modified CO2 followed by a dynamic stage. The most active fractions showed ABTS radical scavenging activity of 0.22 g Trolox/g extract. Different mathematical models were used to describe the kinetic data. The most abundant compounds in the supercritical extracts were oxygenated triterpenes whereas in conventional ethanolic extracts the main constituents were aliphatic compounds.

Metal hydride complexes are key intermediates for N-alkylation of amines with alcohols by the borrowing hydrogen/hydrogen autotransfer (BH/HA) strategy. Reactivity tuning of metal hydride complexes could adjust the dehydrogenation of alcohols and the hydrogenation of imines. Herein we report ruthenium(s) complexes with hetero-bidentate N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-phosphine ligands, which realize smart pathway selection in the N-alkylated reaction via reactivity tuning of IRu-H) species by hetero-bidentate ligands. In particular, complex 6cb with a phenyl wingtip group and BArr counter anion, is shown to be one of the most efficient pre-catalysts for this transformation (temperature is as low as 70 degrees C, neat conditions and catalyst loading is as low as 0.25 mol%). A large variety of (hetero)aromatic amines and primary alcohols were efficiently converted into mono-N-alkylated amines in good to excellent isolated yields. Notably, aliphatic amines, challenging methanol and diamines could also be transformed into the desired products. Detailed control experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations provide insights to understand the mechanism and the smart pathway selection via [Ru-H] species in this process.

BACKGROUND: Accelerated translation of real-world interventions for hypertension management is critical to improving cardiovascular outcomes and reducing disparities. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether a positive deviance approach would improve blood pressure (BP) control across diverse health systems. DESIGN: Quality improvement study using 1-year cross sections of electronic health record data over 5 years (2013-2017). PARTICIPANTS: Adults >= 18 with hypertension with two visits in 2 years with at least one primary care visit in the last year (N = 114,950 at baseline) to a primary care practice in Better Health Partnership, a regional health improvement collaborative. INTERVENTIONS: Identification of a positive deviant and dissemination of this system’s best practices for control of hypertension (i.e., accurate/repeat BP measurement; timely follow-up; outreach; standard treatment algorithm; and communication curriculum) using 3 different intensities (low: Learning Collaborative events describing the best practices; moderate: Learning Collaborative events plus consultation when requested; and high: Learning Collaborative events plus practice coaching). MAIN MEASURES: We used a weighted linear model to estimate the pre- to post-intervention average change in BP control (< 140/90 mmHg) for 35 continuously participating clinics. KEY RESULTS: BP control post-intervention improved by 7.6% [95% confidence interval (CI) 6.0-9.1], from 67% in 2013 to 74% in 2017. Subgroups with the greatest absolute improvement in BP control included Medicaid (12.0%, CI 10.5-13.5), Hispanic (10.5%, 95% CI 8.4-12.5), and African American (9.0%, 95% CI 7.7-10.4). Implementation intensity was associated with improvement in BP control (high: 14.9%, 95% CI 0.2-19.5; moderate: 5.2%, 95% CI 0.8-9.5; low: 0.2%, 95% CI-3.9 to 4.3). CONCLUSIONS: Employing a positive deviance approach can accelerate translation of real-world best practices into care across diverse health systems in the context of a regional health improvement collaborative (RHIC). Using this approach within RHICs nationwide could translate to meaningful improvements in cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Recommanded Product: (4-Methoxyphenyl)methanol. Herein, we present the first example of Os-catalyzed efficient reductive amination under water-gas shift reaction conditions. The developed catalytic systems are formed in situ in aqueous solutions, employ as small as 0.0625 mol% osmium and are capable of delivering reductive amination products for a broad range of aliphatic and aromatic carbonyl compounds and amines. The scope of the reaction, active catalytic systems, possible limitations of the method and DFT-supported mechanistic considerations are discussed in detail in the manuscript.

Product Details of 105-13-5. I found the field of Engineering very interesting. Saw the article Tuning the selectivity to aldehyde via pH regulation in the photocatalytic oxidation of 4-methoxybenzyl alcohol and vanillyl alcohol by TiO2 catalysts published in 2021, Reprint Addresses Augugliaro, V (corresponding author), Univ Palermo, Dipartimento Ingn, Schiavello Grillone Photocatalysis Grp, Viale Sci,Ed 6, I-90128 Palermo, Italy.; Yurdakal, S (corresponding author), Afyon Kocatepe Univ, Fen Edebiyat Fak, Kimya Bolumu, Ahmet Necdet Sezer Kampusu, TR-03200 Afyon, Turkey.. The influence of pH on the photocatalytic partial oxidation of 4-methoxybenzyl alcohol (MBA) and vanillyl alcohol (VA) to their corresponding aldehydes in aqueous suspension under UVA irradiation was investigated by using poorly crystalline home-prepared and crystalline commercial TiO2 (BDH, Merck and Degussa P25) photocatalysts. The results clearly show as tuning pH can strongly impart selectivity and activity to photocatalytic processes which are often quite unselective in aqueous suspensions. It was found that pH effect on reaction rate and product selectivity strongly depended on TiO2 crystallinity and substrate type. In the case of MBA oxidation, photoreactivity and selectivity were very high at low pH values for all of TiO2 catalysts, and the crystalline samples showed to be more active than the poorly crystalline ones. At pH= 1 the photoactivity of Degussa P25 was the highest one, and 88% selectivity at 50% conversion was determined. At acidic pH values, selectivity and activity were higher in the presence of HCl than H2SO4 or H3PO4. For VA oxidation, high selectivity values were obtained at high pH’s for all of the samples, and the crystalline samples showed higher activity at the alkaline pH values with respect to that observed at the acidic ones. Experiments starting from the obtained products, that are p-anisaldehyde and vanillin, showed that the selectivity depends on the resistance of those compounds to be subjected to further oxidation under the experimental conditions used.

For the first time, two new oxovanadium and dioxomolybdenum Schiff base complexes, VOL(OMe) and MoO2L, were synthesized through the reaction of a ONO tridentate Schiff base ligand (H2L) derived from the condensation of 5-bromosalicylaldehyde and nicotinic hydrazide with oxo and dioxo acetylacetonate salts of vanadium and molybdenum, [VO(acac)(2) and MoO2(acac)2], respectively. The synthesized ligand and complexes were characterized by various spectroscopic techniques like FT-IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, elemental analysis (CHN) and the most authentic single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis (SC-XRD). The geometry around the central metal ion in MoO2L was distorted octahedral as revealed by the data collected from diffraction studies. Non-covalent interactions that are responsible for crystal packing are explored by Hirshfeld surface analysis. Theoretical calculations of the synthesized compounds, carried out by DFT at B3LYP/Def2-TZVP level of theory, indicated that the calculated results are in agreement with the experimental findings. Moreover, the catalytic activities of both complexes were investigated for the selective oxidation of benzylic alcohols using urea hydrogen peroxide (UHP) in acetonitrile. (C) 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Site-specific incorporation of deuterium into drug molecules to study and improve their biological properties is crucial for drug discovery and development. Herein, we describe a palladium-catalyzed room-temperature deuterogenolysis of carbon-oxygen bonds in alcohols and ketones with D-2 balloon for practical synthesis of deuterated pharmaceuticals and chemicals with benzyl-site (sp(3) C-H) D-incorporation. The highlights of this deoxygenative deuteration strategy are mild conditions, broad scope, practicability and high chemoselectivity. To enable the direct use of D2O, electrocatalytic D2O-splitting is adapted to in situ supply D-2 on demand. With this system, the precise incorporation of deuterium in the metabolic position (benzyl-site) of ibuprofen is demonstrated in a sustainable and practical way with D2O.

Sulfuryl fluoride is a valuable reagent for the one-pot activation and derivatization of aliphatic alcohols, but the highly reactive alkyl fluorosulfate intermediates limit both the types of reactions that can be accessed as well as the scope. Herein, we report the SO2F2-mediated alcohol substitution and deoxygenation method that relies on the conversion of fluorosulfates to alkyl halide intermediates. This strategy allows the expansion of SO2F2-mediated one-pot processes to include radical reactions, where the alkyl halides can also be exploited in the one-pot deoxygenation of primary alcohols under mild conditions (52-95% yield). This strategy can also enhance the scope of substitutions to nucleophiles that are previously incompatible with one-pot SO2F2-mediated alcohol activation and enables substitution of primary and secondary alcohols in 54-95% yield. Chiral secondary alcohols undergo a highly stereospecific (90-98% ee) double nucleophilic displacement with an overall retention of configuration.

In this study, a commercially available homogeneous pincer-type complex, Ru-Macho, was directly heterogenized via the Lewis acid-catalyzed Friedel-Crafts reaction using dichloromethane as the cross-linker to obtain a heterogeneous, pincer-type Ru porous organometallic polymer (Ru-Macho-POMP) with a high surface area. Notably, Ru-Macho-POMP was demonstrated to be an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the chemoselective hydrogenation of alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds to their corresponding allylic alcohols using cinnamaldehyde as a model compound. The Ru-Macho-POMP catalyst showed a high turnover frequency (TOF = 920 h(-1)) and a high turnover number (TON = 2750), with high chemoselectivity (99%) and recyclability during the selective hydrogenation of alpha, beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds.
