Bunthitsakda, Warunda published the artcileControlled rapid synthesis and in vivo immunomodulatory effects of LM α(1,6)mannan with an amine linker, Category: alcohols-buliding-blocks, the main research area is lipomannan synthesis controlled polymerization glycan conjugate adjuvant vaccine; Adjuvant; Controlled polymerization; Glycan conjugation; Lipomannan glycan; Rapid synthesis.

The synthetic lipomannan (LM) α(1,6)mannans, already equipped with an amine linker on the reducing end, are rapidly synthesized in a size-, regio-, and stereocontrolled reaction. The size of the mannans is regulated through the concentration of the linker, applied during the controlled ring-opening polymerization reaction. The versatile amine linker enables a variety of glycan conjugations. The synthetic α(1,6)mannans exert adjuvant activities for a real vaccine antigen, tetanus toxoid (TT) in vitro, as demonstrated by the increased secretion of proinflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-6 from the treated macrophages. A conjugation of synthetic α(1,6)mannan with TT can also enhance immune response to TT in vivo after immunization as shown by an increase in TNF-α, IFN-γ, and IL-2 production in splenocytes.

Ponomarev, A. V. published the artcileAcceleration of radical exchange and combination in 1-propanol under irradiation and boiling, Application In Synthesis of 584-02-1, the main research area is propanol radical bond cleavage radiolysis reaction mechanism.

The yield of radiolytic degradation of 1-propanol is 13.3 ± 0.9 mols./100 eV in a boiling state and 10.1 ± 0.9 mols./100 eV in ambient conditions when irradiated with 8 MeV accelerated electrons. Boiling increases the yields of diols by 1.7 times and of heavy monohydric alcs. arising via the radical combination by 1.3 times. At the same time, due to boiling, the total yield of methanol and ethanol decreases 2.1 times, and the yield of aldehydes and hydrocarbons – 1.3 times. Boiling accelerates the dissociation of some radicals and radical-cations, facilitates the radical exchange and favors a combination of hydroxypropyl radicals. However, both in liquid and boiling alc., the total yield of splitting of C-H bonds remains approx. twice as high as C-C bonds.

Nishi, Nobuya published the artcileSynthesis of a Pentasaccharide Repeating Unit of Lipopolysaccharide Derived from Virulent E. coli O1 and Identification of a Glycotope Candidate of Avian Pathogenic E. coli O1, Recommanded Product: Benzyl (5-hydroxypentyl)carbamate, the main research area is bovine serum albumin oligosaccharide aminoglycoside; stereoselective glycosylation lipopolysaccharide synthesis BSA oligosaccharide aminoglycoside transition state; BSA glycoconjugate pentasaccharide oligosaccharide antigen vaccine antibody; Avian Pathogenic Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide pentasaccharide repeating unit; avian pathogenic Escherichia coli; boron-mediated aglycon delivery; glycoconjugate; glycotope; β-rhamnoside.

Avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) is a common bacterial pathogen infecting chickens, resulting in economic losses to the poultry industry worldwide. In particular, APEC O1, one of the most common serotypes of APEC, is considered problematic due to its zoonotic potential. Therefore, many attempts have been made to develop an effective vaccine against APEC O1. In fact, the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) O-antigen of APEC O1 has been shown to be a potent antigen for inducing specific protective immune responses. However, the detailed structure of the O-antigen of APEC O1 is not clear. The present study demonstrates the first synthesis of a pentasaccharide repeating unit of LPS derived from virulent E. coli O1 and its conjugate with BSA. ELISA tests using the semi-synthetic glycoconjugate and the APEC O1 immune chicken serum revealed that the pentasaccharide is a glycotope candidate of APEC O1, with great potential as an antigen for vaccine development.

Kizhakidathazhath, Rijeesh published the artcileFacile Anisotropic Deswelling Method for Realizing Large-Area Cholesteric Liquid Crystal Elastomers with Uniform Structural Color and Broad-Range Mechanochromic Response, COA of Formula: C17H28O8S4, the main research area is anisotropic deswelling viscoelasticity liquid crystal elastomer.

Cholesteric liquid crystal elastomers (CLCEs) are soft and dynamic photonic elements that couple the circularly polarized structural color from the cholesteric helix to the viscoelasticity of rubbers: the reflection color is mech. tunable (mechanochromic response) over a broad range. This requires uniform helix orientation, previously realized by long-term centrifugation to ensure anisotropic deswelling, or using sacrificial substrates or external fields. The present paper presents a simple, reproducible, and scalable method to fabricate highly elastic, large-area, millimeters thick CLCE sheets with intense uniform reflection color that is repeatably, rapidly, and continuously tunable across the full visible spectrum by stretching or compressing. A precursor solution is poured onto a substrate and allowed to polymerize into a 3D network during solvent evaporation Pinning to the substrate prevents in-plane shrinkage, thereby realizing anisotropic deswelling in an unprecedentedly simple manner. Quant. stress-strain-reflection wavelength characterization reveals behavior in line with theor. predictions: two linear regimes are identified for strains below and above the helix unwinding threshold, resp. Up to a doubling of the sample length, the continuous color variation across the full visible spectrum repeatedly follows a volume conserving function of the strain, allowing the CLCE to be used as optical high-resolution strain sensor.

Spherical, individual polymer nanoparticles with functional -SH groups were synthesized via aerosol photopolymerization (APP) employing radically initiated thiol-ene chem. A series of various thiol and alkene monomer combinations were investigated based on di-, tri-, and tetrafunctional thiols with difunctional allyl and vinyl ethers, and di- and trifunctional acrylates. Only thiol and alkene monomer combinations able to build cross-linked poly(thio-ether) networks were compatible with APP, which requires fast polymerization of the generated droplet aerosol during the photoreactor passage within a residence time of half-minute. Higher monomer functionalities and equal overall stoichiometry of functional groups resulted in the best nanoparticles being spherical and individual, proven by SEM. The presence of reactive -SH groups in the synthesized nanoparticles as a basis for post-polymerization modifications was verified by Ellman’s test.

Russo, Claudio published the artcileAdhesive properties of thiol-acrylate-epoxy composites obtained by dual-curing procedures, Application of Pentaerythritol tetra(3-mercaptopropionate), the main research area is thiol acrylate epoxy composite adhesive dual curing system; thermal mech property.

Composite materials were prepared using a thiol-acrylate-epoxy dual-curing system filled with boron nitride (BN) agglomerates. The adhesive properties obtained with two different acrylate ratios (ra) were tested to characterize differences and applicability of final thermosets. The effect of bondline thickness, BN wt% and curing procedure on the adhesive strength was evaluated for both acrylate ratios ra by means of lap-shear tests. Materials with viscous intermediate (ra = 0.2) results were observed to have the best performance reaching a maximum of almost 5 kN with 20 wt% of BN. On the other hand, materials with an intermediate gelled network (ra = 0.5) showed a high accuracy in dimension control but lower values of adhesive strength were obtained. A decrease of adhesive strength with the increase of thickness was found for both ra, while the increase of BN wt% lead to higher adhesive strength. The beneficial effect of dual-curing processing on the adhesive properties of liquid intermediate materials was also exptl. demonstrated.

Liquid crystal elastomers (LCE) are an emerging class of material actuators. LCE undergo macroscopic dimensional changes when subjected to a stimulus. The large stimuli-response of LCE is associated with thermotropic disruption of order. Historically, comparatively high temperatures are required to disrupt orientation in LCE to achieve meaningful work output. Here, we introduce an approach to prepare LCE via thiol-Michael/thiol-ene reactions that actuate at or below ambient temperature Alignment was imparted to the LCE by mech. alignment and 3D printing. The LCE materials detailed here achieve strains of 40% with a maximum deformation rate of 6.5% °C-1. The functional utility of the tunability of the thermotropic response of these materials is illustrated in reconfiguration triggered via body heat and sequential actuation of a multi-material element.

Ponomarev, A. V. published the artcileEffect of Boiling on the Mechanism of Formation and Decay of Hydroxyalkyl Radicals, Recommanded Product: 3-Pentanol, the main research area is propanol radial reaction mechanism.

The effect of the boiling state on the reaction mechanism of 11 free radicals formed upon irradiation of 1-propanol with 8 MeV accelerated electrons is considered. Compared to radiolysis at room temperature, radiolysis at boiling results in an increase in 1-propanol degradation yield from (10.1 ± 0.9) to (13.3 ± 0.9) mol./100 eV. Boiling shows the largest effect on the radiolytic cleavage of the C(1)-H and C(2)-H bonds and almost doubles the yield of hydroxyalkyl radicals. In particular, the boiling effect is due to the suppression of the cage effect, a decrease in the relative role of intermol. relaxation, and an increase in the processes of radicals exchange and combination.

Control of curing rate and exothermicity during processing of thermosetting composite materials is essential in order to minimize the formation of internal stresses leading to mech. and dimensional defects in the samples, especially in thick composite samples. It was recently proposed that sequential heat release, an approach based on the kinetic control of the curing sequence of dual-curing thermosets, would enable a step-wise release of the reaction heat and therefore a better control of conversion and temperature profiles during the crosslinking stage. In this article, it is shown exptl. proof of this concept obtained by means of an instrumented mold that can be used for the processing of small samples with and without carbon fiber reinforcement. Safe processing scenarios have been defined by numerical simulation using a simplified two-dimensional heat transfer model and validated exptl.
