Removal of Reactive Red 120 (RR120) dye in aqueous solution was investigated using immobilized TiO2 in the presence of UV light. TiO2 was deposited onto microscope slides by heat attachment method. SEM analyses confirmed that all microscope slides were coated with TiO2 particles completely after single, two, three and four layers coating. The removal efficiency increased with repetitive coating up to three layers. The highest removal efficiency of 94% was obtained at pH 3 within 300 min of reaction time. Complete removal was observed with 5 and 10 mg dm-3 dye concentrations whereas removal efficiency decreased from 96 to 52% when initial RR120 concentration increased 15 mg dm-3 to 30 mg dm-3. The results of nonlinear optimization showed that the kinetics of removal of RR120 in the range of concentration studied described by L-H kinetic expression. The experiments conducted with radical scavengers indicated that hydroxyl radicals and photogenerated hole and electrons were main reactive species in photocatalytic removal of RR120. The photonic efficiency of immobilized system was lower than that of suspended system. Minor drop (6%) in the removal of RR120 with three layers coated slide after four consecutive cycles of 300 min indicated the reusability and stability of coated slides. A possible degradation mechanism for degradation of RR120 was proposed according to detected intermediate compounds Mineralization of RR120 was monitored by generation of NO3- and SO42- ions in solution during photocatalytic reaction. The present findings showed that the donor/acceptor trap charges impact the device in the subthreshold region considerably, while in the superthreshold region the impact of trap charges is marginal. Sodium dodecyl sulfonate (SDS) and hexahydro-1,3,5-tris(hydroxyethyl)-s-triazine (BK) were selected as representative pollutants in CREW to explore the degradation mechanism. The feasibility of the hydrothermal oxidation of a wastewater derived from H2S scavenging operations, carried out in a topside offshore oil and gas installation, was demonstrated. The feed characterization showed the presence of mainly unreacted triazine (unspent scavenger), monoethanolamine and dithiazine (spent scavengers). The spent and unspent scavengers (SUS) were subjected to hydrothermal oxidation in a batch reactor at approx. 200°C (low temperature, LT) and 350°C (high temperature, HT), using oxygen in excess. The experiments were performed for six reaction times at each temperature, in the range 3 to 360 min at LT and 1 to 120 min at HT. Diluted SUS (COD around 30 g/kg) was used as reactor feed. The three main compounds of the SUS were not found in any of the oxidation products, which means they are fast converted. COD reductions up to 84% and 98% were obtained at LT and HT, resp. A rate equation of second order with respect to the COD was found suitable to represent the rate of disappearance of COD, with the rate constant at HT approx. 70 times higher than at LT. The extensive anal. carried out on the reaction products showed the presence of C1-C4 carboxylic acids, pyridines and pyrazines as intermediate oxidation products. This novel ternary micelle system not only maintains the high efficiency under the conditions of oxygen enrichment, but also keeps well performance in varied pH conditions. Computation of pharmacokinetics and pharmacol. properties confirmed the lead/drug like potential of these screened mols. Furthermore, the mol. dynamics simulation of best three docked ligands (1f, 1h and 1k)-receptor complex and their binding free energy calculations reveals that these mols. bind in the catalytic cavity of cyclooxygenase-2 and found stable during the 100 ns of simulation.
