Su, Min; Jing, Ya-Nan; Bao, Hongli; Wan, Wen-Ming published the artcile< Triarylmethanolation as a versatile strategy for the conversion of PAHs into amorphization-induced emission luminogens for extremely sensitive explosive detection and fabrication of artificial light-harvesting systems>, Application In Synthesis of 76-84-6, the main research area is triarylmethanolation.

Current synthetic strategies involving π-system coupling reactions for the mol. design of luminescent materials suffer from the challenging precise synthesis on the desired reactive site and also difficulty in solubility derived from the rigid structures of π-systems. Herein, a novel and versatile triarylmethanolation strategy for the mol. design of luminescent materials with facile synthesis and good solubility is reported. The prepared luminescent materials exhibit unique amorphization-induced emission (AmIE) behaviors, which represent an entropy-favored and ubiquitous type of aggregation-induced emission that is currently famous and is contrary to crystallization-induced emission. Due to the outstanding AmIE behaviors, the luminescent materials exhibit applications in the fields of rewritable display and storage, extremely sensitive explosive detection at the ppb level, and high-efficiency artificial light-harvesting system with an antenna effect up to 21.3. This work therefore expands the methodol., structure, and functionality libraries of luminescent materials with outstanding properties in the application fields of explosive detection, energy transfer, and artificial light-harvesting systems.

A review. Although deficiencies in polyphenol intake do not result in specific deficiency diseases, adequate intake of polyphenols could confer health benefits, especially with regard to chronic diseases. Tea, cocoa, fruits, and berries, as well as vegetables, are rich in polyphenols. Flavan-3-ols from cocoa have been found to be associated with a reduced risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and diabetes, as well as improvements in lipids, endothelial-dependent blood flow and blood pressure, insulin resistance, and systemic inflammation. The flavonoid quercetin and the stilbene resveratrol have also been associated with cardiometabolic health. Although polyphenols have been associated with improved cerebral blood flow, evidence of an impact on cognition is more limited. The ability of dietary polyphenols to produce clin. effects may be due, at least in part, to a bi-directional relationship with the gut microbiota. Polyphenols can impact the composition of the gut microbiota (which are independently associated with health benefits), and gut bacteria metabolize polyphenols into bioactive compounds that produce clin. benefits. Another critical interaction is that of polyphenols with other phytochems., which could be relevant to interpreting the health parameter effects of polyphenols assayed as purified extracts, whole foods, or whole food extracts

Among all invertebrates, soft-bodied cephalopods have the largest central nervous systems and the greatest brain-to-body mass ratios, yet unlike other big-brained animals, cephalopods are unusually short lived. Primates and corvids survive for many decades, but shallow-water octopuses, such as the California two-spot octopus (Octopus bimaculoides), typically live for only 1 yr. Lifespan and reproduction are controlled by the principal neuroendocrine center of the octopus: the optic glands, which are functional analogs to the vertebrate pituitary gland. After mating, females steadfastly brood their eggs, begin fasting, and undergo rapid physiol. decline, featuring repeated self-injury and leading to death. Removal of the optic glands completely reverses this life history trajectory, but the signaling factors underlying this major life transition are unknown. Here, we characterize the major secretions and steroidogenic pathways of the female optic gland using mass spectrometry techniques. We find that at least three pathways are mobilized to increase synthesis of select sterol hormones after reproduction One pathway generates pregnane steroids, known in other animals to support reproduction Two other pathways produce 7-dehydrocholesterol and bile acid intermediates, neither of which were previously known to be involved in semelparity. Our results provide insight into invertebrate cholesterol pathways and confirm a remarkable unity of steroid hormone biol. in life history processes across Bilateria.

Dambri, Oussama Abderrahmane; Cherkaoui, Soumaya published the artcile< Performance Enhancement of Diffusion-Based Molecular Communication.>, Application of C27H44O, the main research area is .

Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) is one of the challenges of bio-inspired diffusion-based molecular communication. The degradation of the remaining molecules from a previous transmission is the solution that biological systems use to mitigate this ISI. While most prior work has proposed the use of enzymes to catalyze the molecules degradation, enzymes also degrade the molecules carrying the information, which drastically decreases the signal strength. In this paper, we propose the use of photolysis reactions, which use the light to instantly transform the emitted molecules so they no longer be recognized after their detection. The light will be emitted in an optimal time, allowing the receiver to detect as many molecules as possible, which increases both the signal strength and ISI mitigation. A lower bound expression on the expectation of the observed molecules number at the receiver is derived. Bit error probability expression is also formulated, and both expressions are validated with simulation results, which show a visible enhancement when using photolysis reactions. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated using Interference-to-Total-Received molecules metric (ITR) and the derived bit error probability.

Dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate (DOSS) as a unique material both as a drug and surfactant was synthesized by a facile and economical synthetic method. In this project, Amberlyst-15 was selected as a heterogeneous recyclable bronsted solid acid for this synthesis both in the esterification of maleic anhydride and sulfonation of dioctyl maleate (DOM) ester. This catalyst was easily recovered and reused at least for 13 consecutive cycles without a significant loss in the catalytic activity. In this paper, we wish to uncover a catalytic approach for the synthesis of DOSS through a recyclable, easily recoverable, and com. available catalyst, namely Amberlyst 15, under mild conditions.

A review. Resveratrol, a natural polyphenolic stilbenoid widely found in grapes and wines, displays beneficial properties such as cardio-protective, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Trans-resveratrol (RSV) is the most bioactive and more abundant stereoisomer found in nature. Despite the pos. properties of RSV, there are various factors that limit its effectiveness, including low aqueous solubility, low oral bioavailability and chem. instability. During the last years, an increasing number of strategies such as nano and micro encapsulation have been developed in order to overcome these limitations and enhance the use of RSV in nutritional and pharmaceutical applications. This Review summarizes the advances and main properties of several RSV carriers and delivery systems reported during the last 5 years.

Huang, Kang; Wang, Yuegang; Bai, Yang; Luo, Qiuyan; Lin, xuancai; Yang, Qiuyu; Wang, Shihao; Xin, hongjie published the artcile< Gut microbiota and metabolites in atrial fibrillation patients and their changes after catheter ablation>, Category: alcohols-buliding-blocks, the main research area is microbiota metabolite catheter ablation human atrial fibrillation; atrial fibrillation; gut metabolites; gut microbiota.

The gut microbiota has been shown to be associated with multiple cardiovascular diseases, but there is little research on the gut microbiota and atrial fibrillation (AF); thus, how the gut microbiota and metabolites change in AF patients after catheter ablation is unclear. In this study, we used 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing and nontargeted metabolomic detection to conduct horizontal and longitudinal analyses of the gut microbiota and metabolites of AF patients. Compared with a control group, species richness and diversity increased significantly in AF patients. Among them, opportunistic pathogenic bacteria, such as Klebsiella, Haemophilus,Streptococcus, and Enterococcus, were significantly increased, and symbiotic bacteria, such as Agathobacter and Butyrivibrio, were significantly reduced. After catheter ablation, intestinal symbiotic bacteria (Lactobacillus, Agathobacter, Lachnospira, etc.) were increased in most AF patients, while pathogenic bacteria (Ruminococcus, etc.) were reduced. Moreover, in AF patients, caffeine, which was neg. correlated with Klebsiella, was downregulated, and estradiol and ascorbic acid, which were pos. correlated with Agathobacter, were also downregulated. After catheter ablation, citrulline, which was pos. correlated with Ralstonia and Lactobacillus, was increased. Oleanolic acid, which was neg. correlated with Ralstonia was downregulated. In conclusion, our results not only show overall changes in the gut microbiota and metabolites in AF patients but also indicate their changes in the short term after catheter ablation. These data will provide novel possibilities for the future clin. diagnosis and treatment of AF.

Lou, Xiaowei; Zhai, Doudou; Yang, Hongshun published the artcile< Changes of metabolite profiles of fish models inoculated with Shewanella baltica during spoilage>, Formula: C6H12O6, the main research area is Shewanella baltica spoilage metabolite profile fish model.

Three Shewanella baltica strains (ABa4, ABe2, BBe1) were inoculated into sterile fish sticks and broths, and the metabolic changes during chilled storage were determined using NMR. Totally 39 metabolites in two fish models were identified, which were involved in four main metabolic pathways: peptide and amino acid, nitrogen, nucleotide, and carbohydrate pathways. In fish sticks, proteins were hydrolyzed to increase amino acids (up to 230%) by S. baltica, especially by strain ABa4. In both fish sticks and broths, S. baltica induced the formations of biogenic amines from amino acids and trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO), and the degradations of adenine nucleotides to form inosine and hypoxanthine (2- to 4-fold increment). In addition, sugars and lactate were consumed by S. baltica, accompanied with the productions of acetate and succinate. Strain BBe1 showed higher TVB-N and capability of biogenic amine production and nucleotide degradation The changes could be attributed to the enzymes of S. baltica during growth and respiration. These findings confirm that S. baltica has highly spoilage potential to decompose nutrients in fish, mainly via nitrogen and nucleotide pathways. This study provides insight on controlling seafood spoilage by intervening degradation pathways.

Iberian cured ham from purebred pigs fattened on grazing acorns is a highly appreciated product. There are several anal. methods to avoid its labeling fraud; however, these require opening the ham. The aim of this work is testing a non-destructive sampling method which does not spoil the phys. integrity of the ham. It consists of a puncture with a needle imitating a traditional olfactory system. After removing the needle impregnated with fat, its volatiles are analyzed with a Gas Chromatog. (GC) coupled to Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS). The potential of this methodol. was studied analyzing 156 Iberian hams from pigs under two different feeding regimes (acorns vs. feed) and from different breed (Iberian vs. Duroc crossed). Intensity of GC-IMS plot features was extracted and chemometric differentiation models were obtained; one for feeding regime and another for breed, providing validated classification rates of 91.7% and 100%, resp. In addition, 29 features used for construction of both models were tentatively identified using chem. standards The suitability of the method for quality control anal. was characterized by means of a precision study. As a conclusion, GC-IMS becomes a useful tool to guarantee dry-cured Iberian ham authenticity and detect labeling fraud.

Continued industrialization and increasing environmental problems have highlighted the need to research new eco-friendly solvents, also known as deep eutectic solvents (DESs). To implement these solvents in industrial processes, the knowledge of their mol. organization and thermophys. properties must be enhanced. In this work, two DESs have been characterized: d-glucose:choline chloride:water (GCH) and d-glucose:citric acid:water (GCiH). NMR techniques were used to analyze both the supramol. structure and the role of water and to calculate the diffusion coefficients Moreover, seven thermophys. properties at several temperatures were evaluated. As a second aim, the solubility of quercetin was determined NMR studies showed a stronger supramol. structure of GCH and a high ratio of β-glucose in both DESs. Based on the thermophys. results, the solvent with choline chloride had the most compact fluid structure. Finally, the solubility of quercetin in the DESs was higher than in water, especially for GCH.
