To determine the key aroma compounds in Chinese rice wine (CRW), four types of CRW (YH, JF, SN, and XX) were analyzed by gas chromatog.-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), gas chromatog.-olfactometry (GC-O), and sensory evaluation. The contributions of the key aroma compounds to the flavor characteristics were determined by partial least squares regression. Sixty-one aroma compounds were detected. Twenty-five components were identified as odor-active compounds On the basis of their odor active values, 18 odor-active compounds were determined as key aroma compounds Et isovalerate, Et butyrate, Et acetate, Et hexanoate, and phenylethyl alc. were key aroma compounds in all four types of wine. A preliminary relationship was illustrated between the structural characteristics and corresponding immunomodulatory activities of G. lucidum polysaccharides. Two polysaccharides (GLP-1 and GLP-2) were purified from Ganoderma lucidum extracts by gradient ethanol precipitation and a Q-Sepharose Fast Flow (QFF) strong anion-exchange column. The monosaccharide composition, high-performance gel permeation chromatog.-multi-angle laser light scattering-refractive index (HPGPC-MALLS-RI), Fourier-transform IR spectroscopy (FT-IR), at. force microscopy (AFM), methylation anal., and NMR (NMR) were used to characterize these polysaccharides. The GLP-1 polysaccharide was elucidated as D-galactoglucan with a flexible random linear conformation that mainly composed of →6)-β-D-Glcp-(1→, →6)-α-D-Galp-(1→, and →3)-β-D-Glcp-(1→ residues. GLP-2 was found to be a relatively homogeneous β-D-glucan that possessing →6)-β-D-Glcp-(1→ and →3)-β-D-Glcp-(1→ residues packaged into a spherical conformation. Immunomodulatory activities in vivo demonstrated that GLP-1 produced better protection of the spleen and thymus and was more effective for promoting hematopoiesis and improving IgA levels in serum. Our results suggest that the immunomodulatory activities of G. lucidum polysaccharides are highly corresponded to their structural characteristics such as carbohydrate composition, mol. weight and advanced conformation. This study provides a preliminary basis for studying the relationship between polysaccharide structure characterization and pharmacol. activities.

Grapholita molesta is one of the most destructive fruit pests distributed worldwide. Odorant receptors (ORs) located on the dendritic membrane of chemosensory neurons are deemed to be key mols. for sensing exogenous chem. signals. In this study, GmolOR9, a general OR from G. molesta, was functionally characterized. Quant. real-time polymerase chain reaction revealed that GmolOR9 was more highly expressed in adults than in other stages, including eggs, larvae, and pupae. GmolOR9 expression was highly significantly more in the antennae of females than in those of males, and the highest level occurred in the antennae of 3-day-old female adults. GmolOR9 was broadly tuned to eight of 47 odorant components tested, including (Z)-3-hexenyl acetate, Bu propionate, Et hexanoate, Et heptanoate, 1-hexanol, (Z)-3-hexenol, 2-ethyl-1-hexanol, and linalool, by in vitro heterologous expression. Furthermore, electroantennogram responses indicated that the effects of dsOR9-injected females to (Z)-3-hexenyl acetate dramatically decreased. These results suggested that GmolOR9 might be involved in detecting host-plant volatiles. Moreover, (Z)-3-hexenyl acetate might serve as a potential attractant for the biol. control of G. molesta.

An investigation of the diversity of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate deaminase producing bacteria associated with camel faeces revealed the presence of a novel bacterial strain designated C459-1T. It was Gram-stain-neg., short-rod-shaped and non-motile. Strain C459-1T was observed to grow optimally at 35°C, at pH 7.0 and in the presence of 0% NaCl on Luria-Bertani agar medium. The cells were found to be pos. for catalase and oxidase activities. The major fatty acids (>10%) were identified as iso-C15 : 0, summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω6c and/or C16 : 1 ω7c) and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH. The predominant menaquinone was MK-7. The major polar lipids consisted of phosphatidylethanolamine, one sphingophospholipid, two unknown aminophospholipids, three unknown glycolipids and five unknown lipids. The genomic DNA G + C content was 40.3 mol%. Phylogenetic anal. based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain C459-1T was affiliated with the genus Sphingobacterium and had the highest sequence similarity to Sphingobacterium tabacisoli h337T (97.0%) and Sphingobacterium paucimobilis HER1398T (95.6%). The average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain C459-1T and S. tabacisoli h337T were 83.8 and 33.8%, resp. Phenotypic characteristics including enzyme activities and carbon source utilization differentiated strain C459-1T from other Sphingobacterium species. Based on its phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic properties, strain C459-1T represents a novel species of the genus Sphingobacterium, for which the name Sphingobacterium faecale sp. nov. is proposed, with strain is C459-1T (CGMCC 1.18716T = KCTC 82381T) as the type strain.

The aggregation of anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) bacteria is important for the start-up and biomass retention of anammox processes. However, it is unclear whether it is beneficial to the activity, growth and reproduction of anammox bacteria. In this study, four reactor systems were developed to explore the effects of aggregation on anammox activity, growth and reproduction, after excluding the contribution of aggregation to sludge settling and retention. Results demonstrated that (i) compared with free-living planktonic bacteria, the aggregated bacteria had a higher volumetric nitrogen removal rate (0.75 kg-N/(m3·d)) and specific nitrogen removal activity (1.097 kg-N/VSS/d). And after 67 days cultivation, it had the higher sludge concentration and relative abundance (92.4%); (ii) compared with acidic polysaccharides and α-D-glucopyranose polysaccharides, β-D-glucopyranose polysaccharide play more essential roles of anammox aggregation; (iii) norspermidine triggered the secretion of α-D-glucopyranose polysaccharides to combat the toxicity, and inhibited biomass growth rate; (iv) immobilization in polyvinyl alc. (10%) or sodium alginate (2%) gel beads was better than sodium alginate-chitosan gel beads and norspermidine (biofilm inhibitor) for the cultivation of free-living planktonic anammox bacteria. This is the first comparative study of three methods for cultivating free-living anammox bacteria. In conclusion, we found that the aggregation of anammox sludge not only facilitates biomass retention but also enhances the bioactivity, relative abundance, growth, and reproduction rate of anammox bacteria. The work is helpful to understand the formation of anammox granular sludge and contribute to the fast start-up and stable operation in anammox application.

The process continued via the ester formation with the pyridine ring closure, followed by amide formation. A series of new 2-[6/7/8-(1,2,4-oxadiazol-5-yl)[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]pyridine-3-yl]acetamides were obtained in good yields and their structures were proved by the method of 1H NMR spectroscopy. The prognosis and study of their pharmacol. activity were also conducted. In addition, we investigated complex 1 catalyzed cross-dehydrocoupling (CDC) of alcs., phenols, amines, thiol, selenol, and silanols with HBpin under mild reaction conditions. Furthermore, several control experiments have been performed to understand the mechanisms in hydroboration and CDC reactions. All corresponding catalytic intermediates have been identified and characterized by 1H and 13C{1H} NMR spectroscopic methods. In contrast to several reports on metal-catalyzed hydroboration of carbonyls, this is the second report for the mol. aluminum catalyzed CDC of organic substrates with HBpin.
