Exploring catalytic processes performed under natural conditions is interesting, but there remains a great challenge in developing highly efficient catalysts for natural oxidation of alcohols. Herein, we report a chloroplast-like catalyst comprised of photoactive carbon dots (CDs), catalytically active Pt nanoparticles, and amphiphilic nanotubes. Under simulated and real natural reaction conditions, our catalysts exhibited remarkable activity and long-term reusability for the oxidation of various alcohols, significantly outperforming that of other counterpart catalysts and reported thermal/photocatalytic systems. It was demonstrated that when the carbon dots and the amphiphilic nanotubes respectively played a role in the light-harvesting and the substrate transport the Pt/CDs heterointerface acted as the active center for the matter conversion. Such an elaborate cooperation, an advanced process in the photosynthesis of plant, contributed to the excellent catalytic performance. This contribution provides a new design concept for artificial photocatalysts, which is very promising for developing sustainable catalytic processes.

Three new Ni-II/Co-II-metal organic frameworks were self-assembled by the reaction of C-3 symmetric 1,3,5-tribenzoic acid (H3BTC) and 2,4,6-tris(4-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine (4-TPT) ligands and Ni-II/Co-II salts under solvothermal conditions. Isomorphous MOF1 and MOF2 exhibit a 3D pillar-layer framework based on binuclear M-2(OH)(COO)(2) units connected by tritopic BTC3- and 4-TPT ligands with a novel (3,5)-connected topology net. MOF3 displays a 3-fold interpenetrated 3D network exhibiting a (3,4)-connected topology net. The porous MOF3 can reversibly take up I-2. The activated MOFs contain both Lewis acid (Ni-II center) and basic (uncoordinated pyridyl or carboxylic groups) sites, and act as bifunctional acid-base catalysts. The catalytic measurements demonstrate that the activated MOF3 exhibits good activities for benzyl alcohol oxidation and the Knoevenagel reaction and can be recycled and reused for at least four cycles without losing its structural integrity and high catalytic activity. Thus, the catalytic properties for the oxidation-Knoevenagel cascade reaction have also been studied.

An efficient magnetically recyclable bimetallic catalyst by anchoring copper and manganese complexes on the Fe(3)O(4)NPs was prepared and named as Fe3O4@Cu-Mn. It was founded as a powerful catalyst for the domino one-pot oxidative benzimidazole and Biginelli reactions from benzyl alcohols as a green protocol in the presence of air, under solvent-free and mild conditions. Fe3O4@Cu-Mn NPs were well characterized by FT-IR, XRD, FE-SEM, TEM, VSM, TGA, EDX, DLS, and ICP analyses. The optimum range of parameters such as time, temperature, amount of catalyst, and solvent were investigated for the domino one-pot benzimidazole and Biginelli reactions to find the optimum reaction conditions. The catalyst was compatible with a variety of benzyl alcohols, which provides favorable products with good to high yields for all of derivatives. Hot filtration and Hg poisoning tests from the nanocatalyst revealed the stability, low metal leaching and heterogeneous nature of the catalyst. To prove the synergistic and cooperative effect of the catalytic system, the various homologues of the catalyst were prepared and then applied to a model reaction separately. Finally, the catalyst could be filtered from the reaction mixture simply, and reused for five consecutive cycles with a minimum loss in catalytic activity and performance. The oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes is a powerful reaction pathway for obtaining valuable fine chemicals used in pharmaceuticals and biologically active compounds. Although many oxidants can oxidize alcohols, only a few hydrogen peroxide oxidations can be employed to continuously synthesize aldehydes in high yields using a liquid-liquid two-phase flow reactor, despite the possibility of the application toward a safe and rapid multi-step synthesis. We herein report the continuous flow synthesis of (E)-cinnamaldehyde from (E)-cinnamyl alcohol in 95%-98% yields with 99% selectivity for over 5 days by the selective oxidation of hydrogen peroxide using a catalyst column in which Pt is dispersed in SiO2. The active species for the developed selective oxidation is found to be zero-valent Pt(0) from the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements of the Pt surface before and after the oxidation. Using Pt black diluted with SiO2 as a catalyst to retain the Pt(0) species with the optimal substrate and H2O2 introduction rate not only enhances the catalytic activity but also maintains the activity during the flow reaction. Optimizing the contact time of the substrate with Pt and H2O2 using a flow reactor is important to proceed with the selective oxidation to prevent the catalytic H2O2 decomposition.

A new ionic liquid was synthesised, and its chemical structure was elucidated by FT-IR, 1D NMR, 2D NMR, and mass analyses. Some physical properties, thermal behaviour, and thermal stability of this ionic liquid were investigated. The formation of a two-protonic acid salt namely 4,4′-trimethylene-N,N’-dipiperidinium sulfate instead of 4,4′-trimethylene-N,N’-dipiperidinium hydrogensulfate was evidenced by NMR analyses. The catalytic activity of this ionic liquid was demonstrated in the esterification reaction of n-butanol and glacial acetic acid under different conditions. The desired acetate was obtained in 62-88% yield without using a Dean-Stark apparatus under optimal conditions of 10 mol-% of the ionic liquid, an alcohol to glacial acetic acid mole ratio of 1.3 : 1.0, a temperature of 75-100 degrees C, and a reaction time of 4 h. alpha-Tocopherol (alpha-TCP), a highly efficient form of vitamin E, was also treated with glacial acetic acid in the presence of the ionic liquid, and O-acetyl-alpha-tocopherol (Ac-TCP) was obtained in 88.4% yield. The separation of esters was conducted during workup without the utilisation of high-cost column chromatography. The residue and ionic liquid were used in subsequent runs after the extraction of desired products. The ionic liquid exhibited high catalytic activity even after five runs with no significant change in its chemical structure and catalytic efficiency.

A series of backbone-modified N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes of iridium(I) (1d-f) have been synthesized and characterized. The electronic properties of the NHC ligands have been assessed by comparison of the IR carbonyl stretching frequencies of the in situ prepared [IrCl(CO)(2)(NHC)] complexes in CH2Cl2. These new complexes (1d-f), together with previously prepared 1a-c, were applied as catalysts for the alpha-alkylation of arylacetonitriles with an equimolar amount of primary alcohols or 2-aminobenzyl alcohol. The catalytic activities of these complexes could be controlled by modifying the N-substituents and backbone of the NHC ligands. The NHC-Ir-I complex 1f bearing 4-methoxybenzyl substituents on the N-atoms and 4-methoxyphenyl groups at the 4,5-positions of imidazole exhibited the highest catalytic activity in the alpha-alkylation of arylacetonitriles with primary alcohols. Various alpha-alkylated nitriles and aminoquinolines were obtained in high yields through a borrowing hydrogen pathway by using 0.1 mol% 1f and a catalytic amount of KOH (5 mol%) under an air atmosphere within significantly short reaction times.

Purpose: As a third-generation EGFR TKI has been taken orally, Osimertinib effectively inhibits mutant EGFR, including T790M EGFR resistance mutations. Here, we examined real-world efficacy and tolerability of Osimertinib among Chinese patients with advanced EGFR T790M-mutant NSCLC. Patients and Methods: A total of 106 advanced NSCLC patients who were taking Osimertinib following disease progression after EGFR-TKIs or other treatments were retro-spectively recruited in this study. The PFS and OS after Osimertinib treatment were analyzed as the primary endpoints. Results: Osimertinib was used as a second line and >= 3rd line treatment in 22.6% and 77.4% of the patients, respectively. DCR and ORR were 93.4% and 57.5%, respectively. Median PFS was 12.4 12 (95% CI, 10.5-13.5) months. The PFS was 11 (8.0, 14.0) and 12 (10.3,13.7) months (p = 0.373), in patients with and without CNS metastasis, respectively. PFS in 2nd and >= 3rd line treatment was 11 (9.0, 13.0) and 12.4 12 (8.9, 15.1) months (p = 0.799), respectively. In patients with EGFR exon 19 deletion and exon 21 L858 mutation, the median PFS was 11 (9.2, 12.8) and 12 (9.2, 14.8) months, respectively (p = 0.833). Median PFS in the monotherapy group and combined anti-angiogenesis group was 11 (9.9,12.1) and 14 (11.2,16.8) months, respectively. Median OS after Osimertinib initiation was 27 (19.6, 34.4) months: 15 (6.9, 23.1) and 27 (22, 32) months in patients with and without CNS metastasis (p=0.027), 27 (20.3,33.7) months and (undefined) as second line or >= 3rd line of treatment (p = 0.421), respectively. A metal- and additive-free methodology for the highly selective, photocatalyzed C-H oxygenation of alkylarenes under air to the corresponding carbonyls is presented. The process is catalyzed by an imide-acridinium that forms an extremely strong photooxidant upon visible light irradiation, which is able to activate inert alkylarenes such as toluene. The first examples of an iron-catalyzed three-component synthesis of homoallylic boronates from regioselective union of bis(pinacolato)diboron, an alkenyl halide (bromide, chloride or fluoride), and an olefin are disclosed. Products that bear tertiary or quaternary carbon centers could be generated in up to 87 % yield as single regioisomers with complete retention of the olefin stereochemistry. With cyclopropylidene-containing substrates, ring cleavage leading to trisubstituted E-alkenylboronates were selectively obtained. Mechanistic studies revealed reaction attributes that are distinct from previously reported alkene carboboration pathways.
